I'm ready to change the rear springs and hangers on my Scout II and am looking for ideas on what 2.5" rear springs people are using? Pictures of your 2.5" wide rear Scout II hangers would also be a nice. What have you made or used?

I haven't tried it yet, but I'm thinking '74 + Wagoneer/Grand Wagoneer rear springs would work well. F150 rear springs are another option I've thought about trying.

For the hangers, some 3.5" x .250 wall box tubing works well, just cut one side off.

Every one I have seen used square/rect stock from the local supply house

I am toying with adding longer offset springs in the rear too..My Land Rovers have sagged too much just from themn sitting in the garage:eek: they used to measure 46" while loaded...now they are 48":(
Rockslut used Rear waggy's on his YJ and they seem to work ok. I'm not too happy about having the mount dropped below the frame though.
Both of us use the std Jeep aftermarket mounts for the rear springs. However, I used to flat style and centered mine on the frame. RS, used the tab type and welded his to the outside edge..Here is a pic:http://community.webshots.com/storage/1/v0/7/6/99/31070699gLFtEUooAW_ph
I think that if I use a longer leaf that requires that I hang it below the frame, I will make new mounts and make sure that they are streamlined.

Yeah, I used the Jeep mounts with the tab on the front springs but I'm looking to put the rear springs outside the frame like the original Scout II springs.
I would like a longer spring than the Wagoneer (approx 50") and was thinking about the Chevy rear truck springs that are 56" long. With the 56" long spring I could move the mounts back on the frame and extend the wheel base about 4" and only cut the top and back side of the rear wheel wells.

What is the big advantage of going to the wider springs?

A wider spring will ride and flex better because it does not need to be as stiff as a narrow spring to carry the same weight.
