Is it tire height or width? My thought is that a wide tire is gonna wear the balljoints worse but I want to be sure. Anyone have experience on this. I need a taller tire to keep the 14 bolt from dragging everywhere and was thinking of getting some 38-12.50 swampers. But the truck is a DD and I don't want to be replacing balljoints all the time. So what do ya think, will the D44 front balljoints hold up to the skinny 38's with a lot of pavement and with offroad abuse as well? Thanks!
Well, mostly the wider tire 'cause of additional leverage.... but a taller tire is gonna be heavier also so that's still gonna accelerate wear.
As for longevity, I can only speak from running a full-size on a D44 TTB.... quality ball joints would last 12-18 months w/35's... say maybe 10k miles a year (approx)..... maybe 25%ish of that on the trail (wild ass guess).

I haven't had a (decent) balljoint last less than 4 years for me. I ran 33s (now 35s). The ones on my D44 are now 5 1/2 years old, although the lower-left one I suspect is beginning to get loose.
I think a major reason for short-lived joints is frequent submersal in mud (or muddy water). This tends to extract the grease out past the seals. I would say get greasable ones and grease them at least twice a year (same for the tie-rod ends) if you plan to be mud-boggin it a lot.

bigger tires exert more leverage and accelerate balljoint wear period. wider is probably less so than taller cause when you turn taller has more leverage on the joints. quality balljoints and lube em everytime you go wheeling in the wet.
