: Project High Hood Yj
BOUNTY1 03-20-2007, 04:09 PM Well since I got the bigger tires and will be doing the 4 link coilovers up front I decided to take care of the clearance issue first. So took off the PSC fenders and the inner fenders.
http://i131.photobucket.com/albums/p282/BOUNTY1PORN/DSCN1654.jpg
Had to cut some of the air intake to make it fit so the filter would be level with the hood where the kit that AEM has there is a heat sheald that it mounts to and the sheald mounts to the inner fenders and the filter is pointing down.
Taped up the hood and made a template for both sides then took the jig saw to it. Took the dremal to the rough edges and buffed them then put on black car door triming.
In the pic the triming is not on yet.

Cut and ground down the stinger to shock hoop supports.
Will be making a new compressor holder coming off of the tube I run back to the fire wall.
http://i131.photobucket.com/albums/p282/BOUNTY1PORN/DSCN1653.jpg
This is some what of what I am going to do.

Also bought new fittings and hose from HOWE PERFORMANCE to fix some problems.
More pics to come soon.

BOUNTY1 03-21-2007, 11:20 PM Ok little more work done.
Choped the stinger supports off. Put all the correct hoses and fittings on the hydro system with 90s @ the ram put the cooler on bled the system ran it and no foam :D.
And no the bungee cords are not perminent there just to hold the resivoir till the correct support is made. :flipoff2:

Two things that should never be used in the same sentence. :flipoff2:
In for the updates. I want to tear off my BTF fenders and cut into the hood. I need more motivation!

TeenyCAR 03-22-2007, 08:28 PM So I guess you are not happy with Roggy's work?

Po' riggity 03-22-2007, 08:32 PM Sounds to me like you have something personal with Roggy going on... That sucks, but the jeeps lookin good.

Lets put it like this. Trying to get ahold of him is a job in itself. I have left him 4 -5 messages on his cell and work phone to call me. NO RETURN CALLS. :mad3:
He does great fabrication work that is strong :) . But when it comes to really thinking things out and testing and the detail work it doesnt appear that is a strong point for him:shaking:
The ram plate he made should have been a little longer so the ram arms were straight in stead of bent like they are and they are bent lock to lock. Also the sloped plate the ram bolts to should have had a deeper slope down because the bolt that goes through the heim into the steering arm is long and has a 1" spacer on it and when I give the steering wheel a tug I can see that bolt do a quick bend. I can just see that bolt snaping on the trail some time. :mad3:
So to fix it and get that Heim closer to the steering arm the ram plate needs more of a slope down.
Also why did he leave my tie rod on there and say thats the way to run it. And every one else say no it will bind.:shaking: And I did test it and it was binding not alot but it was. Also why was there not 90 degree fittings on the ram when he did it. Why did he not notice that the other hoses were going to cause problems.
Also where the ram plate bolts onto the top of my axel housing he pluged the breather hole with a bolt for the plate and said that my front axel will not get that hot and doesnt need a breather. :shaking: YES IT DOES you would blow axel seals if it isnt.
That along with lose bolts and other BS.
SOOOOOOO I will do the work myself for now on and learn as I go. I just need to by a welder now and learn my self:laughing: how to weld.
I have spent a great amount of $$$$$$$$$$$$$ there and I was going to have him link and coilover the front and then drop in the LS1 or Vortec.
geberhard 03-23-2007, 10:33 AM Bounty, am digging the setup! Movement in my pants, not sure if becasue of the hood or hood on the avatar :D
How are you planning to mount to the tub, same setup as teh white one, dimple died and to the original mounts? I was going to say, to save some time, make a template of the hole location on cardboard :)
Gui
Have you tried other fab shops?
AA-Fab does awesome work.

BOUNTY1 03-23-2007, 11:24 AM :D :D Already thought about the cardboard. Made a couple of templates out of it. Had to make one for the support brackets that will weld to the frame and bolt to the lower 2 bolts on the cowl. Also made templates for the 10 gauge metal for the side panels and a couple other things. Metal is all cut and ready just need to bend and weld. :D
BOUNTY1 03-23-2007, 11:31 AM No I have not tried other fabs shops. I havent really looked either I just figured I would by the tools as I go and learn to do the shit my self. That way I know how it went on how it works and if it breaks how to fix it and knowing I have the skill and tools to do the work. Will save money and headachs in the long run. But thanks bear. If I need a whole new ram mount I could take it to AA and they would build a new one or cut/add onto the one I have.
kwrangln 03-23-2007, 04:01 PM Also why did he leave my tie rod on there and say thats the way to run it. And every one else say no it will bind.:shaking: And I did test it and it was binding not alot but it was.
How did you end up testing the steering for bind? What were the results? Could you please update your steering thread with the results for the next time this comes up?
Thanks.
BOUNTY1 03-23-2007, 04:47 PM :D Ok no problem.

misfitcj 03-25-2007, 06:03 AM Again, your thread is great. I think it is even better that you are doing the work. I enjoy seeing the progress along with style, I was simply suggesting that you do a seperate thread with your issue with roggy as that would probley help you get your vendor issue resvoled. Which I still believe is why you mentioned it. if not why even put it out there.
Again do not misunderstand me. Your work is something to be proud of, and I enjoy seeing your progress. keep the thread alive with tech not, vendor issues.........

southernkrawler 03-27-2007, 08:27 PM Does your hood hit the tube bad when you open the hood in the back.
Interesting thread I should check out this hardcore stuff more often.
Pm'd Ya
BOUNTY1 03-28-2007, 09:12 AM Does your hood hit the tube bad when you open the hood in the back.
It just rubs the door trim a little. I calculated for that so there was a half inch gap between the hood and the bar all the way around.
geberhard 03-28-2007, 12:19 PM Bounty, out of curiosity, are you running with the nerf like rubber cushioning things around?
BOUNTY1 03-28-2007, 03:04 PM Yes it help protect the rocks and trees and my head. Im trying to start a fad. :D
laughing: I just have thoes on when Im in the garage so I dont hit my head on the stinger like I have and the garage refridgerator has.:shaking: Also the one on the drivers side rocker is to protect the Mazda RX8 door when my honey opens it. :D But when I took it up to my friends shop this last weekend I forgot to take them off so driving down the freeway with them on and they still stayed on.
Ben Holloway 03-28-2007, 04:40 PM Got Stinger, Damn that thing is big. Nice work though
Ben
Grendel 03-28-2007, 04:50 PM What hose did you use for the hydro? How flexable is it?
I'd like something more flexable than I currently have.
BOUNTY1 03-28-2007, 08:12 PM Its flexable to a point. It really depends on how the fitting go on the ends. The hose will only twist so much and then it gets stiff because the fittings are holding it in that position.
BOUNTY1 06-24-2007, 06:45 PM Ok here are some more pics.
Painted it up and rewired the rocklights and the Viair compressor and manifold for the ARB's also put Moroso hood pins in.

Only good ones I have right now.

The one below was befor the ram was lower to straighten out the mini arms and get rid of the tie rod. Also one bolt is out and replaced with a bolt I driled a hole in and put in for the breather tube.

Good point. I wonder if that is a Ford D60.. what stroke ram are you running? how is your system working at HWY speeds? What did the entire system cost?
I'm about to go full hydraulic steering and was this afternoon at one of Howe dist. checking for prices and configurations.
Nice rig. :)
red99 12-13-2007, 08:55 AM Thanks they helped alot. Again awesome build.

Thanks. The D60 is custom made. The center is a HDHP Tera center thats why the diff cover is tilted up. Its like the Rock Jock.
The ram and everything else I got befor christmas and was a great deal because HOWE was running a special for holidays in 2006 december. I think it was $1400 for everything. It is a 8 inch stroke ram. And I do not drive it on the streets or HWY. It is no longer street leagal. :smokin:
G.C. Bandit 12-10-2008, 10:01 AM ANY MORE PICS? Im sure there are some more rigs out there since this post is over a year old.

darioc 12-10-2008, 03:44 PM Wow that's a sweet looking rig. Only thing I would not have done is all the yellow. Stands out too much for me. So mean looking though! Nice!
