I'm looking to get my 258 running better. I'd like to do an ignition upgrade. I'm a little confused about what I've got. My distributor has a condenser and points(at least they look like points) and some kind of control box on the pass. fender well. I'm not sure if it's a points ignition or a breakerless ignition. Can anyone lend me some knowledge? Oh and what ever I do it needs to be smog legal for at least a few more years. Thanks in advance

I can't offer much insight on your stock ignition system, but it sounds antiquated. Can you go with GM HEI in Cali? Or do your draconian smog laws prevent it? The engine would run better, idle better, start better get better mileage and probably run cleaner as well, because of the much hotter combustion...

Just a thought...
