What it is is that the lazy fucks at the parts counters only look in the computer for parts and numbers. Older vehicles are not in the ocmputer so you have to make these guys/gals drag out the books to look things up properly.

Well, the sourcebooks only seem to go so far.. It'd be much simpler to just call in a part nmber than wait an hour or more for the local parts dolt to tell me that they need to order what I need.

The part numbers I've found so far are for the 304, and there is a ton of confusion over the 62-66 dizzy differences. Personally I can't see what all the difference could be, but I thought I'd ask you all here first.

I am a Scout newbie, but I'm not new to the 4x4 infection.

Cheers, and thanks all!

My '76 196 w/ goldbox took the same cap as my 304... except they only installed terminals in four of the 8 spots. ;)

Have you tried calling a Scout vendor?

I just bought a Pertronix Ignitor from http://www.SuperScoutSpecliasts.com and got a few cap n' rotor combos while I was at it ($6 each).

Just determine if you have a Holley or a Delco. The Delco dizzy was cast iron, IIRC.

If it's a Holley, you should be able to get 'em for a '72 Scout II with 196.. if they list that in the parts book.

I think it was always 50/50 if I had to wait for them to order in my Holley 4cyl cap..

If I remember (after thinking about this all day), you can use the Chevy 350 rotor, cap, points and condensor. Just put a wire in every other hole in the cap and it works fine.

Sorry for the late post. I got all the parts I needed from Southern auto. They had OLD parts books, and the guy I was talking to had a Scout himself. Whew, talk about lucky..

Anyhow, the carb needed a rebuild, and now it starts on the first try. Not too bad for a engine that has not run in over a decade.

Thanks everyone.
