: axle seal problem

Need some help here....

I have a right rear seal that won't seal. I have done the seals several times, yes they were the right way round, and have replaced the bearings.

It is a stock ten spline axle, (no flames please - I just haven't been able to nuke it yet) and I am wondering if it is a common experience to get one out of round?

Anyone else experienced this and found the fix? Hopefully I will be finally changing my gearing and upgrading the third member soon, if I can ever break the damn thing. I can't see the since of gutting the unit just to put in 4:11's without doing the axle conversion and diff at the same time, and money is an issue.

Suggestions?

Your sure you got them the right way around with the "proper" 3mm depth? If so then I'd betcha dollars to donuts you've got a warped rotor/hub.

yeah,
It's in the right way, my book says 4mm, but oh well...

I haven't done a runout on the rotor, but I have no pulsation or noticable feel issues. I have all metal lines, so I imagine I would feel any pulsation/grab in the pedal, right????

Where is it leaking?

RTV the flange and let the bearing run in 90wt.

I think RockRover might have nailed it with the hub, I just remembered that the rear rotors are new. Any way to check for run-out on the hub? Or am I just looking at a replacement?

Maybe a break-shop or machine shop can check for run-out...But even if the results were conclusive, what are the opions? Replacement.

I've always heard (and have had) rear axle seals go...But it was always fixed with the new(er) double lipped seal.

Have you tryed another seal? Maybe you got a couple that were bad out-of-the-box...Been known to happen with LR parts!

Have you got any grooves on the stub axle. If so you can speedy sleeve it (very thin metal sleeve) then install a new double lipped inner hub seal (from a 110) as said before.
If you rip out the the inner axle seal your bearings can swim in diff oil and will last heaps longer.

Would anyone happen to have the Part# for the 110 seal? I want to make sure that isn't what I already have in there. The thing leaks so often, I carry a spare!
