Did the later samurai's have a gauge cluster with the tach option(mines a 93?) Mine doesn't, I know the older sami dash did though....

Everything I have read/heard says that 89 was the last year you could get a tach....when they went to EFI, no tach option.

does the jx tach work with the jl's efi?
If it does thats the route I would like to go, if not i'll just get an auxillary tach...

Nope.
It can be made to work (the instrument cluster plugs have to be "rewired", since the pinouts are different between the carbed and EFI samurai's).

You might want to look for a 88.5 or 89 with a tach and see if the pugs were the same as the efi ones. If so then you add a vss for the computer. Most of the time you just see a add on tach.

Those are the ones I was talking about (the square vent tach clusters from 88.5 or 89). I know they are not "plug and play" with EFI samurai's, because the pin outs in the cluster connectors are different.

FYI, all samurai cluster plugs are the same physically (all will plug into any cluster). The problem is....the pinouts are different in the various clusters.

Another FYI, square vent clusters will not fit into round vent dashes and vice-versa. I am sure you can modify one or the other and get them to fit.....but they are not a direct fit.

And one more FYI, you can swap an older tach dash (86-88) and cluster into an EFI samurai and rewire the cluster to get the tach and all the gauges, lights, etc. to work......I know, because I have done it.
