My engine runs but when i put it in gear it doesn't engage. I think this is because the torque converter isn't doing its job. I filled more tranny fluid in but i have had no results. Does the torque converter fill with fluid when i put it in the tranny? Any other ideas as to why it isn't engaging. The fly wheel is spinning like it should.
thanks,

OK, lets start of with some info. What vehicle, year, engine, tranny. New tranny, used tranny, original tranny. How much fluid have you added? Did you isntall the tranny? Did you line up the torque converter and the front pump before starting the engine?

Used tranny and engine. Sat around for a couple years before i got it. Caddy 472 engine, hydromatic 400 (basically a turbo 400) for the tranny. I put them in my K5 blazer. I don't know anything about a pump. Please describe.... very scared now:confused: please respond asap. When I put the torque converter in I make sure the thing clicked into place before boltin up.
any help (and I need it!!!) is appreciated

Sounds like you used a new Torque Convertor? Do you know how much ATF you've put in thus far? An auto with a complete fluid change (IE the TC needs to be filled) can take over 10 quarts of ATF. Make sure you are filling the tranny with the engine running and the tranny in Neutral.

Did you bolt the flex plate to the converter? Sure you did, first thing I thought of. Did you drop the pan? filter cloged from sitting?
