I need to know the dimensions on the rear mont gas tanks for either the '79 trucks or the early '80's trucks. I wanna see if I can fit one in my samurai.:D

excellent I can wait. I have been unable to find the dimensions (so far) on the internet.

P.S. where's the ford FAQ?

FYI, the rear mount tanks are all pretty much the same size from the 70's through the mid 90's. I used the rear tank from the 96' F-250 donor truck for the FI swap in my 77' F-150. I had to roll the tank seam flange a little in a few spots to get it to fit between the 77's frame rails, but nothing major.

Where do you plan on mounting one of these tanks? These things are almost as wide as your whole sami!:p Sorry, my truck is 30 miles away or I'd run a tape for you.

I remember helping my buddy put a new one in his truck and they didn't seem to be too wide. If it is narrow enoungh then I'm hopin' to double my fuel capacity.

sorry took so long - 34 3/4 wide ( from seam to seam outside ) 26 1/2 long (seam to seam ) x 7 1/2 tall ( total height ) - half the seam is stuffed in the frame on the truck so you dont see it - filler is in the middle of the front on the front edge

i think they are 16 or 19 gallons

Cool, thanks for the specs.:D I found some poly ones that are about an inch smaller all the way around from Bronco Graveyard. Looks like I can fit it if I turn it side ways. If this works, it will double my fuel capacity and tuck the tank up higher in the frame to keep it off the rocks and stumps. Once again thanks for the measurements.:smokin:
