Buy some gaskets and bolts and clean it out. Ron tbmcneill 05-25-2002, 07:32 PM 96s and 97s have had problems with the carbon on the exhaust valves, though it seems you hear about it less on the 97s. BMWs improvements with the electrics seem to be more evident in the 97s, as well. I had a '96 at one time. Like a lot of the 96s, it had the carbon problem, some electric problems, & the dash peel problem -- fortunately covered under warranty.
