: 55 Leaf Spring help!

I picked up a set up springs from someone on Wed for my 40. They looked like FJ-55 to my uneducated eye when I picked them up, 8 leaves, centered pin. The seller said they came off of a 55, he has a nice SO 55 so I figured he would know.

I started to clean them up today and got all the leaves apart. There were 8 leaves each. As I was got the second to longest leaf on the second set powerwashed, I noticed a Mitsubishi logo. I got to worrying and measured the springs, they were 3.5 inches longer than my MAF 40 springs, but were 2.75 inches wide compared to 2.5 inches for the MAF 40 springs.

Not 55 springs are they?? What do you think I should do? Get another set for the front. I have a guy in town that is parting out a 55 and I have dibs on his rear springs, but that is a couple months down the road and I plan those for the rear. I'm guessing I should get another set for the front, eh? Or do you think I can use these "Mitsubishi" springs? Or should I get my cabbage back?? I have some pics I can post later!

Other wise it was a great week - my 36X12.5 TSLs arrived today, got some MX-3 seats, got my spring hangers off, ordered some Corroless, have a buddy going to make some custom front spring hangers for me, and I will have my engine rebuild complete tomorrow, and my axle back together if my new calipers ever show up!!:smokin:

Just backing Rhino up here, Mitsu made the spring packs. Not sure what all they made but I have seen that logo on several stock leave packs.

Be happy!

They're stock. My FJ40 front springs and the 55 rear springs both have the mitsubishi logo. The MAF springs are narrower than stock, at least I know that is the case with their FJ60 springs. They use wide shoulder bushings to compensate.

No. They're all wrong! Those really are useless Mitsubishi springs. But today is your lucky day. I'd be willing to take them off your hands for the price of shipping.
I still need a set for my er, aahh......Eclipse.

Thanks for the offer!!:flipoff2:

I got half of one spring pack all wire wheeled and ready for painting. I plan on using the paint that Woody used and mentioned on his write up - graphite based - over top Eastwood's Rust Encapsulator (formerly known as Corroless). Anyone see any problems with this and where would I find the graphite based paint Woody used??

Hey Sean,
I (and I think Woody) used Slip Plate which is commonly used to line farm equipment strorage bins. I found it in spray cans and quarts for brushing or shooting at a farm store. Tractor Supply, or Farm and Fleet. They only stocked one flavor here, and it was a deep gray when applied. I didn't prime mine and it is holding up better than i expected. It goes on kinda flat and scratches get shiny but doesn't rub off.

I also found that a local big truck suspension shop has made me (or stocked) new u-bolts, the spring friction pads and has a large selection of bushings at prices I couldn't believe. :)

Cool, the local Feed/Supply here may be able to help, and the guy that runs it went to my college!! That's gotta be worth some sorta discount!! :D

The Corroless should stop the rust that I leave behind and seal it. I don't mind grey, but I hope they have black, I think that's Woody used.

You mean big pick ups or do you mean larger? Sure glad I have to Denver yellow pages!!

Thanks Mike, BTW I just sent you an email. My new SM420, (that is so clean you can eat off of and is waiting for new bearings/synchros per Charlie's advice based on his experiences), is ready for an adaptor!!

The gray was a darker shade, more like slate. As far as the spring parts they are the big work trucks, like dump trucks, rv's and stuff, not passenger trucks. However the one I stop at sells air bags and add a leafs for lots of vehicles. Try Truck Repair in the yellow book!

Thanks for the order on the adpater plate kit. I have 5 more all packaged up and ready to go, and since the demand has slowed after almost 40, this may be the last run of them.
