Hey guys,
Yesterday i rolled my CJ onto the drivers side, i am fine and the CJ is in fairly good condition. I destroyed my CJ fenders that were cut perfectly for TJ flares and my hood. I got a real CJ hood with only surface rust for free, but now i need to work on the fenders. I have been reading a lot about using YJ fenders on a CJ, the redrilling of the new holes at the grill and filling the old Yj holes is not a issue, same with the hood hold downs. But when mounting TJ flares on the YJ fender is it still nessecary to cut out the opening? I looked at the Jeepskate writeup on the issue but he never mentioned if he had to do work to get the wheel openings perfect. does anybody know the answer?

This is what i had done to my CJ fenders to make them work with the TJ flares:

He had to cut the fender and bend it back and then wleded it all together. I no longer deal with this person so i cannot have him do it again. I hope YJ will not need as much work to get the TJ flares to work.

Thanks,
Scott

Hey Newt, I'm guessing shipping those fenders all they way back
east would be cost-prohibitive.

I'm interested in them. sent you an email.....

Rock Toy,

That was what i was thinking, i know they are :rainbow: but they are not a issue on the trail, they warn flares bend real nice.

But that is not even the point:

even if i did flatfender it, the CJ wheel opening still need to be cut for my 38's and SRS so i would like to see some pictures of how people cut the opening larger.

Do a search for a post by Eric Ruhl. He did a sweet conversion with TJ flares on CJ fenders. It's a cross between flat fendering it and being able to keep the turn signal lamps.

Hey Scott,
All I did was cut the outside along with the contour of the TJ flare, then the inner part that's perpendicular got pop riveted to a bent piece of galvanized sheetmetal to hold it back. Probably not the prettiest job, but it works. I'd never seen anyone weld them up like that, but I guess that's not so bad, either.
