Anyone know how to calculate how much a given amount of shock travel will translate into actual wheel travel in a set-up with the shock mounted vertically? Specifically, the front axle set-up of a 90.

Measure the distance between the two shocks, then measure the distance between the two tyres (the points where you want to measure the wheel travel) then the wheel travel is the shock travel times the ratio on the two distances.

eg. if the shocks are 6feet apart and the wheels are 8feet and you got 10in travel shocks then the maximum possible wheel travel is 10x8/6 = 13.33333in of wheel travel.

Assume a 14" travel shock on a 69" wide axle...Shocks 60" apart....:)

With the shock angled to work out the effective vertical travel is just 14 x cos(10) x cos(4) which works out to be 13.75in.

so the wheel travel will be 13.75 x 69 / 60 = 15.8inches.

Although if you are going to start to worry about the effect of the small angle of the shock then doing the ratio thing isnt going to be all that accurate. You would have to work out the actual geometry and stuff cause the ratio thing assumes everything moves vertically etc.

But I figure it is accurate enough.
