ok so here is the deal, i have an 89 ford 1/2 ton with the awsome 300 six and the not so awsome mazda 5spd. The truck has 185k and does not burn any oil. i would like to know if it is at all posible to swap the 5spd for the 4 spd that came standard in that body stiyle and year range? i will be turning the truck into a strickly play vehicle at the end of the summer so i want to get the most strength out of this 1/2 ton as posible. i would like to run 35x13.50 mickeys so i do not want to brake this thing.

what would it cost me?
do i have to change the bell housing?
would the t-case still bolt up?
Any advantages of either?
any other mods that are needed-computer stuff?

all input is welcome. Thanks guys

I ran a 300i6 with t-18 "4-Speed" with a locked 4.10 8.8, and i never had a prob with getting them 42's over.... but since ive swapped to d60's rear done front not in yet with 351/c6/np205 and can white smoke the 42's on the street i always thought the 300 had balls till i swapped this.. youl love the t-18 with g-low

The T18 is stronger but the NP-435 has a 5% lower first gear at 6.69 and it is the tranny that came in the 80's and newer

Fox....that guy I bought my D44 axle from had a 4 speed from the same truck (74-75 F150) sitting on the garage floor. He asked if I knew anyone that wanted it, I told him I'd pass around the word. Not sure what tranny this is, and it did not have a bell housing, but did have a crappy 1 speed t-case bolted to it. I'm sure he will let it go for cheap too. I'll see if I can get his # for you.

The T-18 didn't have the extreme low First gear that the older Np435 had. The NP435 also had the PTO on some if not all of them. To add to the confusion there is a T-19 that was used in HD applications. Mostly it was a beefed up T-18.

The M5OD mostly ran an concentric slave and the NP435 ran an external slave, so figure the cost of this in. I found a Np435 for arround $400 out of a mildly burned truck (for price reference).

The M5OD had a non removable bell housing, so you need to find
one for the NP435.

The t-case might be a problem. This I don't know.

The NP435 will give you a good crawl ratio.

Neither tranny is related to the computer, so no mods here.

For about the same price you can swap to a running junkyard 351. This would be a better swap IMO.

Well I got a 4-spd out of a blue(yes the color is important) 1990 f150 that had a 300six in it so it would bolt right up. All you have to do is come pick it up and its yours.

by the way, how is project "farmer john truck" coming?

Huuuuhhhaaaaaa! HHaaaaaa! :bender:

F150ED had his truck stolen a couple of months ago, it just so happened to be a the same truck as mine except with a four speed. the guys that stole the truck painted over the perfectly good red piant with blue house paint, yes with a brush!! but what he fails to tell you is that he dose not actually have the truck the insurance company took it and i can't figure out where they sold it to. but i do think that i need a new tranny.

ohh and by the way he got 1500 bucks more from the insurance company than what he paid for it, jackass!!!! so he bought a 91 f150 ext cab long bed with a 351 and a E4OD instead of the I6 and four speed. got lucky huh, wish that could happen to me?!
