I've got a 99 Ram 2500 4x4 with a 360 gas engine and a 46RE tranny. It has 2 issues (maybe related, maybe not) The first is when it idles for more than a minute or 2, it startes idling really rough and makes a whistling sound from the throttle body (IAC maybe?) The second problem is, if I sit at a stoplight and accelerate hard (WOT) the truck is very sluggish between idle and 2500 rpm, once it hits 2500 rpm it has the acceleration it should have. I don't believe this is a transmission issue as the truck accelerates relative to rpm. Any ideas?

Edit: truck has a hypertech and flowmaster muffler. I set the truck back to stock settings and it still has both issues, so it's not a glitch in the hypertech programming.

Clean your IAC and throttle body. When cleaning it don't twist the plunger it can be damaged very easily if twisted. It is possible for it to create both problems you described. If the acceleration problem persists check your TPS.

IAC can affect initial accelerati0on at WOT? wow, learn somethin new every day. Thanks, I'll try it tomorrow at work.

Is it an EGR model? Some had egr valves and some didn't. It sounds like your egr is hanging open. At first I was thinking cat was clogged but that wouldn't change above 2500 rpm. It might be worth checking though. Any check eng lites?

Is this after a cold start? During warmup after a cold start the engine goes thru an evap system purge with similar affects. Mine does it usually about the first stoplight.

98 and up didn't have a EGR.

It def. aint your trans. and it def. aint just the 360. I have a '01 318 w/5 spd tranny, and i have the same problem with mine, had it for bout 2 years, let me know what you find.
