Hey ran into problems today...when installing 5.03's in my Dana 60 FF.Seems the Detroit I used for 4.10's an up wouldn't allow any backlash....Precision Gear R&P is thick and I need the carrier break the same as the open carrier that I removed with factory 4.10's. Anyone know if this is the case on my other diff? It's a F250 RC Dana 44. Anyone else ran into this on their 5.13's? Thanks.

Dana 60 4.10 and down; 4.56 and up
Dana 44 3.73 and down; 3.92 and up

So you need a new carrier on your 60 if it came with 4.10's (for 5.13's):(

If your 44 had 4.10's it has the right carrier for 5.13 gears:)

Actually, it's according....... you can get the thick ring gear made by Precision Gear - as stated before - to run 5.13's on the 4.10 and down carrier for the Ford hi-pinion D60. I'm not sure about the standard pinion (Chevy/Dodge) tho.

You said FF D-60 , not RC D-60 ?

I think they only make the thick gears for HP-60's

Nope...I ran into this trouble on the rear, it's FF and the R&P is a Precision...thick....and when I ordered everything they supplied me with the Detroits that are for 4.56's and numerialy higher. I am fawked on the rear.....and the frt. ? I was trying to find out pre-trying to build something!!!

Why not send back either the Detroits or the gears and get the matching set-ups? Who did you get your stuff from?

Looks like I'll be sending back the lockers, the 60 ring gear has already been machined down. All the parts along with rebuid kits came from Drivetrain Direct....anyone had return problems with them?

Sorry, missed your post. I had great dealings with DTD. Get in touch with Dave - the Prez - at ext 117.

Still no satisfaction..... I have talked with DD, seems they think I have the right locker. I measured the deck height of the OE open carrier which had 4.10's...with ring gear down, from bench to face of bolt flange 6 1/4" the locker is 5 3/4". I checked the centerline of each gear set by meshing pinion to ring gear, both are 2 1/2". This clearly shows that I need same deck height. The only difference between the 2 other than tooth count is the 4.10's are 1 3/8" thick ring gear and the 5.13's are 1 1/2" thick ring...this makes up the difference in the dia. of pinion gear. Has this happened to anyone?

Well....Dave Rittenhouse just phoned me...they don't know what application a Detroit with 5 3/4 deck is for. They are going out to try and locate another 4.56 and up Dana 60 Detroit and air ship it or something so I can get this pile together. They seem like good people. I'm about to need therapy!!!

sorry to hear your problem, hope you come out ahead.
but just to make sure for my sake
A 5.13 thick gearset for a rc60 will fit in a 4.10 and down carrier(got 3.50 now)

This is a standard cut rear, Dana didn't make a 5.13 gearset and accordding to Precision only the RC has a thick one.....hell I'll only know what to run when maybe the next one get's here!!
