I've got a 77' EB big bearing 9" and was wondering if there are any issues with installing 4.56s'???
I had heard that the case may need to be notched??
thanks..:)

I had to do some minor grinding inside the case to install 4.56's in my 9"

Pinion bearing pocket needs a slight grind for clearance or at least it did on the 3 that I have seen done.......

My '74 3rd member didn't need any notching. BB housing.

Yep, my Currie housing needed slight notching, no probs with the pinion bearing though.......

I've got 5.13's in mine no problem.

I put a 4.56 drop-in -it fit with no mods (in a 78 9").

Don't know about 4.56's, but I installed 4.88's without having to notch anything.. would imagine it would be tighter?

You don't always have to but with some gears in the 9" housing you have to grind a little off the pinion support bearing housing. No big deal at all it's done all the time. Just grind out as little as possible and make sure to clean all the crap out very good.
