: Mini disc conversion question!

What is happening here? I'm doing the mini-disc conversion and when I put the short side axle back in (did a Marlin Tack) the shaft slides in too far, I put the tack exactly where is should go...the portion of the shaft that is supposed to ride on the seal goes way past the housing seal...so, when I try to get the birf onto the shaft...no go! Did I mix up the axle shafts? I'm supposed to use the 40 shafts right? Which shaft is longer, the 40 or the Mini? Sorry for the stupid question, but I'm stuck.

there should be around 1 1/2" of spline clear. but as pin head said, as long as the wear marks are clear, its all good.

Look at the picture in one of the replies to the post further down on the page "How much $ for front axle shafts?" by Eskimo. The picture shows the FJ40 short side axle shaft longer than the mini-truck axle shaft. Can't verify 100% that's correct.

You are supposed to use the FJ inner shafts. I do not know how far your inner shaft is going beyond the seal, but if you tack them just outside the wear marks on the splines, you should not have any problems with the seal. Maybe you grabbed the wrong inner shaft?
