Sears is having a sale on THIS (http://www.sears.com/sr/javasr/product.do?BV_UseBVCookie=Yes&pid=00918419000&cat=Compressors+%26+Air+Tools&subcat=Air+Compressors+%26+Inflators&vertical=TOOL&ihtoken=1) compressor right now. $500 is my limit for a compressor (and even 'waiting till I get more money' isn't going to bump that limit up to the $900-3000 for a really nice one; because I don't use it enough to drop that kind of coin on one). Most common use will be airing up the lawnmower's tires:laughing: But I do use an air impact wrench, very very occasional use of a cut-off wheel, and intend to buy a plasma cutter in the near future. I've gotten by with a POS 30 year old 15gal compressor up to this point. Can anyone suggest a 60gal unit that will be better than the above listed one for $500 or less? TIA

BTW, yes I am aware of the huge number of air compressor threads already out there. Just didn't find one that was specific to my budget.

Don't buy it. We have blown this same compressor up three times now. Good thing we have the extended warrantee. My buddy just blew up the same one and his is out of warrantee. The extended warrantee does not apply for commercial use. Buy the Eaton that is in the 135psi compressor thread above...

Thanks for the warning... sounds like a real POS:eek: I can't afford the Eaton. Wish I could; but I can't. Any thoughts on this unit? TSC has it on sale for $515 right now locally.

The only thing is, he was using is pretty hard and the head got hot enough to melt and inhale the cheapy plastic air filter on it. He had to tear it down to clean it out, and I think had to replace the valves. He put a steal air filter on it and hasn't had any more problems. So, just upgrade the filter before beating the hell out of it :D

based on you criteria. I think you should shop for a used one.

By complete accident, that may end up working out. I'll post some pics/specs if the deal goes through. I'll get the IR if not; but this 'slightly damaged in transit' one I happened upon is a bad machine.:grinpimp:

The IR unit in your link looks like a quality unit...

Well, the 'scratch and dent' model didn't pan out. It was a 60gal Westward with massive 7.5hp motor (29amp IIRC) and 23cfm @ 90psi pump. It just needed a new safety cage and some paint touched up on the tank. The guy ended up still wanting $1100 for it. Which is a good price; but more than I can swing. I'll probably just go back to TSC and get the 60gal IR I listed above since everyone seems to think its a decent unit.
