Tx Outlaw 05-26-2002, 06:40 AM Yes, they built one. It's not enough to get you out of any bad prediciments tho. Standard rule of thumb on winches is 1.5 times the weight of your vehicle should be the lowest rating to buy.
toy283 05-26-2002, 07:04 AM In '85 when I was first looking at winches, Warn listed the 5000lb as the standard duty winch for Toyotas and a 6000lb winch for "heavy duty" use.
mud-magnet 05-26-2002, 07:08 AM ok, so if i need 1.5 times, lets see, my zuki weighs 2995lb.s.......so lets round it to 3000X1.5=4500lb..........more than enough....... i'm not driving a *HEEP*.....

emsoffroad 05-26-2002, 11:54 AM $150 CND, so that's like $10 US. Get it. Just kidding more around $75-$85. If it works sounds like a good deal to me. Even if you have to just use a snatch block every time. And hey down the road you can always getting something bigger and nicer. Then you can always use that one on a trailer, or the rear of your rig.

Gozuki 05-26-2002, 01:54 PM I would use it for the rear application, look for an 8K for the front...
mud-magnet 05-26-2002, 03:16 PM well i went to look at it and it looks fairly good, needs paint but thats it, the plastic control box is in perfect cond., might need new cable it's kinda beaten up....... i got a 6000lb. one on my zuki now but it stalls out at 1600lb.....???....... it says 6000lb. line pull, stalling at 1600lb..........and it pulls me out fine with a snatch block........... but it only has 30feet of cable, and with the block its 15, and its soooooo slow, only power in, and LOUD........ so i think i'll get this warn........but buddy was quite busy, and didn't have time to hook it up, so i didn't see it work, i'm going back out to see it work probility tomorow, then if it works good, i'll get it.......... its only 150$ anyways, and i'm selling my shit winch for 100$ so i'm realy only spending 50 on it........
thanks guys,
-Mike:roxy:
mud-magnet 05-26-2002, 04:08 PM o yeah, and what model would that be???? M5000??? or what???? it has the detached control box that the controler plugs into........

13% over loaded weight around here wouldn't do much for you in a lot of the stucks I've seen. Went to a run one time that a Blazer sunk in the campgounds (headed out to the trails) and it took 3 rigs with winches to extract him. The lowest rated one was a 9000 lb. Even with my Jeep, I'd never buy a winch rated less than 9000lbs
YellowSub1962 05-26-2002, 11:25 PM Seabass, I've always heard 1.5 times the weight of the vehicle also...All the mags, books and tech articles seem to have it as the minimum....this is the first time I've heard 13%...where's that from?
I always like overkill, so I go double, but I'm not concerned with an extra 100 pounds....
:usa:
mud-magnet 05-27-2002, 01:11 PM well anyone know what model it is?????????????
:roxy:
MAD MAC 05-27-2002, 06:44 PM If you buy it the model is a warn M5000 the model # is 27332 its the same one I use on my cj5 and it works fine my cj5 weight is 2876 with my 200 pound ass in it so you figure the math.

rep from Ramsey told me:D Look around everyone runs a 8K anyway, lol:smokin:
Jakesteramalamajama 05-28-2002, 05:18 AM That 5000 pound rating is the stall speed on the first layer of the drum. Unless you're winching with all the cable all the way out, all the time, your actual stall speed will be much, much lower.
That said, you still might be able to get away with using a 5K-pound winch on a Suzuki, just make sure you use a snatch block or you'll burn up the motor in a hurry.
HTH,
Jake
mud-magnet 05-28-2002, 12:41 PM well the :rainbow: ass piece of shit sold it on me so.......
thanks

Yeah, them Warn 8274's ain't worth a damn, are they... They're only 8000lb rated! :flipoff2: :flipoff2: :flipoff2:
<--Currently hating the POS Ramsey REP9000 on my junk.
TNToy 05-29-2002, 10:30 AM My Toy isn't a thousand pounds heavier than your zuk, and I've stalled my 9K winch on ocassion. The thing is, when you bury a rig good, the mud grabs a zuk's axles & frame just as hard as a duallys. The rig mig be lighter, but it's in the same mud.
You'd have to double-line a 5K winch a lot. And that would only leave you with 25 feet of cable. Way too short for my liking.
rockzooki 05-29-2002, 03:49 PM ive got a superwinch x3, 4000lb, its got a 4900lb stall, it ok for a little extra oomph, or to roll yourself back over, but it wouldnt be enough in mud
SeaBass44 05-29-2002, 06:34 PM what's this stuff called mud u speak of:confused:       :flipoff2: :flipoff2: :flipoff2:

Don't make me change my username to seabastard and start doing impressions of your buddy kerry, smartass. :flipoff2::flipoff2::flipoff2:
