I am designing a front bumper for the 95-04 taco/4runner...as far as I have reasearched:

Taco
95.5-97 - short frame horn
98-00 - long frame horn (roughly 3" longer)
01-04 back to short

Any 4runner info needed as well....the 99 I have is a long version, I don't know if that is consistant all through 96-02. I am aware that the 4runner changes to the current body style in 03

here are some pics.... the first is short, second is long:

So whats your question? Your right, about the years and the differences. If the longer frame on the 99 is an issue just cut off the crush cans and weld a plate on the front with a 12mm nut welded on the backside. This is better anyway b/c the front of the frame on 01-04's is paper thin and barely supports a decent bumper and winch. Check Wa. TTORA's board for "front bumper mod" and there is a decent write up of how to re-enforce the mounts.

If this were for myself I would but this is for a production bumper sent to everyone from hardcore to beginner. It can't be an expectation to have a customer refab his front end to put a bumper on, not everyone has the tools and/or exp. This question is posted on TTORA as well...no response....but I'll check out the post you talked about.

I was wondering if I am right about what years the differeces are...I have already designed for both and am not relying on the last 3" of either frame... but need to know which bracket to send X customer with X year...don't want any suprises.

Thanks,

Nick
