Ok, i fitted up the PS box today, and the nut on the shackle is blocking the box a bit. anyone else have this problem ever? Henry is going to post some pics for me, think i should just make new shackles and use a short bolt with no extra threads sticking out?
Matt:rolleyes:

I would make another set of shackles and weld on the nuts. This way all you have to do is thread in a bolt with a lock washer and you don't have to worry about getting a wrench between the steering box.

Get a flatter nut and tack weld it onto the shackle plate, that seems the easiest way to fix this.

i cant do the welded nut shackle idea (although its very clever) because i have a shackle reversal. :flipoff2: :rasta:

why dont you just turn the bolt the other way? it seems to me that would work:jeep3:

Cause if something breaks on the trail and i have to take the bolt out for some reason, i have to take the PS box out too, plus i was planning on making new shackles with a bit of lift anyway, get rid of the weird stock ones....
Matt
Those stock shackles suck! I have bent them into S shapes and it is not a fun ride home. But is is fun when you take them out and try to straighten them with a BFH on the trail....not :D
Make new ones from 3/8" x 2" and you will be all set.

So, why don't you do a welded nut on your SR bracket and get rid of that OEM spring pin and replace it with a bolt? Or you can grind off the knurls on the OEM pin and weld a nut to the end of the pin so it can act like a bolt now. Same concept. :D

not the avctual crossmember. put the entire frame...inside and out...is plated like a mofo!! the rails actually takle more stress than the crossmember so thats why it wasnt a concern to leave all that metal out.
plus the mammoth has done it a thousand times and i trust it:flipoff2: :rasta: hehe
