Who has em? Mrs P_D has a S&W .500 with an 8 3/8" bbl. Nothing like touching off a 400 grain hollow point with one hand. :smokin:

Nice writeup. I was going to buy a .460 but in the black Limited Edition guise, just for the versatility of being able to shoot .45LC, .454, and .460 Manglem.

I've shot the .500 in both 8 3/8" and 4" bbls. The 4" obviously has more felt recoil, but is still manageable to shoot. I shot the .460 as well and still want one. The velocity doesn't concern me so much, I'd rather have seen them use a 300grn bullet as a standard load than the 200. That 200 grainer beats the snot out of the forcing cone. The literature that I read early on in its life was that a .460 should be sent back to the factory after 1,200 rounds to have the bbl removed and the forcing cone reamed.

Nice. Where'd you get the 700grn bullets? Did you cast and load them yourself?

I am not set up to reload yet. I got a small box of the 700 grainer's from these nice folks here:

I have bought several different varieties of .500 ammo from them and it has all been quality stuff.

I do have some of the 700 grain bullets that I bought off of ebay from a gent who casts them up in Alaska. Eventually I will get around to finishing putting together a reloading setup.

That's one of the reasons they mirror finished it I believe. I also read that you should limit your use of the 45LC and 454 Casull rounds for the very same reason. Because they are so much shorter than the 460, the fire reaks havoc on the forcing cone and can possibly detirerate it over time. I figure 1200 rounds is going to take me a lot of years to get thru.

First of all, if you live in North America and dont use a handgun for grizzly and you use anything larger than 454 casull then it is a small penis compensator plain and simple.

With that said, i would love to have a 500. My dad has a 454 that ive used a few times and i love it. I also use a savage stryker in .308 for deer although i dont consider the rifle rounds to be "hand cannon" status.

I seem to recall some old(1970s era) gun rags stating that .357 magnum was plenty for grizzly. Did they get some armor upgrades since then?

Small penis compensator eh? Well, one could also say the same thing about most of the 4X's that people on this board drive.

I bought cuz it was cool and shoots multiple cartridges. I don't hunt grizzly, and really don't hunt any other animal for that matter. I like to target shoot and plink. Granted, a 460 is way overkill for that, but it is fun.

I may use it for hog hunting in the future, but I kinda doubt it. I think the Ruger 44 Hunter would be much better suited.

I'm short, drive a somewhat large 4WD pickemup truck and own a .500, but my pecker is suxed just fine. I bought it 1. for the wife (she had to have a .50 cal handgun and I refused to get a Deagle) 2. it pisses off the liberals 3. because I fuckin can 4. it pisses off the liberals and makes some soil themselves (double points) 5. If ever I'm charged by a rogue Peterbuilt I can stop that fucker in its tracks. :flipoff2:

Kendo,

I think it has more to do with the potential to flash cut the chamber rather than the forcing cone but either way I get what you're saying. If I reloaded I'd set up some plinker loads in .460 brass. I guess I oughta get to cracken, the cheapest I've found .500 ammo for is $29 for 20 rounds.
