Anyone have any specs or real good closeup shots of some tube doors for a 4door xj. Wanting to build some and need some ideas. This xj forum ROCKS. It's about time. I'll be getting the star soon now. Lets see those doors.

I made one out of a Chevy S-10 Blazer tire carrier...

I cut the stock latch off and relocated it to hit the pin on the door jamb...

then relocated the release handle to pop it open...

It worked pretty well...shut really nice & tight without rattling and saved a lot of time by not having to make the frame for it. Not a bad little option if you've got a welder and a junkyard nearby.

Thats a darn good idea Vetteboy. Thanks. I may try to hit the junkyard this weekend to try to find some. Anybody else have any ideas.

I know this is not an XJ, but I am using XJ coils, does that count:D
anyway these are the tube doors I made for my broncoII, I just thought they might help give you some ideals. I used the stock hidges off of a donor rig and welded them to the tube, and for the latch I used a rod and put on a spring, a few warshers and made it spring loaded. The rod then just slides into the door jam where I drilled a hole. Only down fall to this is you can't just slam the door shut you have to pull the rod shut the ddoor and let go of rod. But it was simple and works great for me.
I still have the factory doors for the winter time, just slide out the pin in 5 minutes have both doors changed.

I ran it for a while, then plans changed on the XJ so I gave it to a buddy of mine. Here's some pics with it painted/cleaned up etc on his rig.
