Finally got everything set up and timed on my cj and everything seemed to be working right up until now. It will run fine at idle and low throttle for ever but the minute i give her some gas she sputters and dies within 2minutes, it took me forever to figure it out, but it is managing to push my point out of place and hence keeping it closed. i tried it the way it was originally(no vacuum hose, had em plugged) and i had installed a vacuum hose and still the same problem.
it has new point and condensor, cap and rotor are new. is my plate shot? something just need tuned?
its a 72 sbf 302

Is the rubbing block spinning true?
About the dist shaft? not bent?

just took it completely apart, every last bit. Shaft looks great, and the bushings are tight as can be, there was no play at all in the shaft. spinning it by hand it looks true as can be also. A lot of gunk in there, which all the metal parts are soaking in cleaner right now. I managed to fry this point from trying to start it repeatedly before figuring it out so i gotta go pick up a new one before i put it back together also.

I was having the same kinds of problems in my 390, so I did what you did by disassembling, cleaning etc. Instead of going back to points I did this tho http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_10001_10002_751757_-1_11577
Best investment I ever made on my motor!

Go with a Pertronix. Very easy to put in and trouble free.

I do have intentions of going electronic ignition(although different than your guys links, although that is nice) hei actually makes from my understanding a gm distrib with a ford base, which is the kind with the coil and everything in the cap with electronic ign for only like 150.I just wanted to get my lift and stuff first before dealing with it. It is a trail beater so money can't be flying left and right just yet.
after reassemblying it and cleaning everything(looks brand spanking new) it doesnt seem to be doing it anymore? i have no idea what happaned, and i had a mild miss somewhere that is now dissapeared maybe from sitting in the woods for 20 years something was just sticking lol
there was a lot of gunk down by the weights, perhaps one of them was sticking throwing stuff off?

Just junkyard it, and locate a Duraspark ignition setup from a later '70s, early '80s small block ford.
Pretty much painless and troublefree.

X2, a Duraspark distributor with a GM module is about the cheapest route. I did it on the GPW and have had no problems at all.
