Howdy all: My friend (HeyBeerMan) and I began the ring and pinion install on my new 60s this evening. After finally honing all the bearing, we started test fitting and ain't coming close to getting a good tooth contact. Had a couple of questions.

First, does anyone have a source for Spicer part numbers? I searced here and also on Dana.com and was unsuccessful. My concern is the new open carrier I purchased. I'm installing 5:13 gears and the D60 carrier break is 4.56 and lower (numerically higher). The Spicer part number on the box is 706040 X. Can anyone tell me if this is the correct low ratio carrier?

Also, is it normal for an R&P install kit not to have pinion depth shims? I've got preload shims, but no way of shimming for pinion depth, which is also likely the reason we're not getting good contact. Thanks for any help. I didn't want to wait until the stores reopened on Tuesday.

Case kit # 706040x shows up as 4.10 and down in my book.
706041x is the 4.56 and up.

Yeah, to confuse matters something weird goes on here.... are the gears Spicers or aftermarket?

IIRC I needed the 4.10 and numerically lower carrier w/my 5.38s 'cause the 5.38s were Spicers... had they been aftermarket I woulda needed the 4.56 + carrier. Maybe that's just an ARB thing, but I don't think so?? This was in a D60 RC btw...

I know someone else on this board has heard of this, please clarify!

Dirtrod: Gracias. After posting last night, I tracked down similar info at drivetrain.com.

D60: I should have specified these are aftermarket gears on a standard rotation (rear) 60. I will be doing the thick RC gear on my front 60, as I have a 4.10 and higher Detroit. To the best of my knowledge, thick-cut gears are only available for high pinion 60s.
