: F-toy questions
My first question is what is the year range for frames? (no year range given on formulatoy.org)
My second question is out the door what kind of price range am I looking at for a 4 seater? or what have you guys spent roughly?
Thanks
Neal

Any year. What you want is a solid axle LWB frame if you want a 4 seater or any SWB or 4runner frame if you want to make a compact 4 seater using the 2 seater frame. The solid front axle frames give more room up front for suspension movement.
I don't think you can assemble a safe comp rig for under $10K. It will likely be more in the $13k to $15k range if you actually keep track of everything you buy. Now if you already have a truck with the proper springs, 30 spliners, doubler........see where this is going. It's a little hard to figure the exact final cost. The cool thing is if you already have a trail rig just pluck the body off, stick the chassis on and wheel. Make the upgrades as you can later. Either way it will be the best move you have ever made and you will love it.
from scratch on the cheap. 10k...with nice stuff...15k
79 to 95 frame
The big thing is that it depends on if you have a Donor rig and if you have one how built up...
RE:Todd 04-08-2007, 02:01 AM 2 door frame, 15K includes everything I've ever bought. Add my sponsered stuff, $15K and you can be a Champ
Thanks all
I don't have a donor rig yet but looking carefully.
What year did fuel injection start? Are there any problem child years to lookout for?
So basically a good donor, the cage kit, build the axles and get some tires?
one more thing the official site wasn't clear on, it said no birf eliminators does that mean no longfields or no u-joint conversions?
desertoy 04-09-2007, 03:11 PM Longfields are ok, just no u-joint conversions.
1985 was the first fuel injected motor but I would look close into propane power.
If you are able to do 100% of the work yourself the prices above are accurate. If you have to pay someone to do the labor the price could reach $30-$40,000.
rickibrat2 04-09-2007, 05:02 PM just did a qoute for a lady here she wants one for her son, using trail gear and mm parts it came to 12k
less wheels and tires

Does that include labor?
I may have found a donor 91 4runner 4x4 will this work? I think it's a 6cyl though.
noahfecks 04-13-2007, 08:50 PM You can use that frame and alot of other parts like the rear axle, front disk setup and, possibly the transmission. But you will still need a 4 cly 22r motor, solid front axle (79-85), and probably at least one 4 cyl transfer case to stay within the f-toy rules. The pre 86 frames have some advantages for clearance in the front but your 91 will be a decent donor vehichle. I am 4k into part and havent ordered my chassis yet but if you are patient and watch the board for parts and can do alot of the work yourself, you can get one built for 10k.

I think this is pretty much on the mark. I never actually added it all up. And if I do, I ain't telling my wife!
I kinda wish I had propane over fuel injection. I have fried two fuel pumps now. Both times at comps!

Have you found out why they keep burning out?
TravisSSII 04-19-2007, 02:24 PM What do you say the chances of being able to order a chassis and then getting it hauled to Boyd in Sept. so that we could pick it up there?

pretty good. just call one of the suppliers for the chassis and i am sure they can work something out.

What fuel pump are you running?
Ricks72ntx 04-20-2007, 01:33 AM What do you say the chances of being able to order a chassis and then getting it hauled to Boyd in Sept. so that we could pick it up there? Do it man! We need some f-toys in Texas, Im down around Beaumont and have #36, but I've still got a few things left to do before its trail worthy :(

hurry up and get it done and come to boyd and run recovery for the ftoy class. that would be killer:smokin:
TravisSSII 04-23-2007, 02:52 PM Well…. I have a dilemma. The comp in Boyd is the same weekend as ACL Fest here in Austin. Do I party and jam out to some tunes, or do I watch rigs battle on the rocks?
How much to ship a chassis? You Texas people, let me know.
