: RE Control arm pulled apart at the threads

My left rear upper RE control arm pulled apart at the threads, and I was wondering: The threads really don't look stripped. I was thinking about just threading the arms back together, re-mounting it, then have somebody just weld the halves together. Any reason why I shouldn't do this?? I'm not concerned about losing the adjustability, because I already have the arms and pinion angle set to where I want them. Plus, I'm not planning on lifting it any further, so I won't have to worry about any future adjustments. I think with the threads still being in decent shape and being welded, it should be fine. I just don't trust the threads on their own anymore.

Mel85CJ and whoever else might care :p,
I can almost guarantee the arms ripped apart because I don't have that rear swaybar on. It just allowed my axle to droop farther than what the arms can handle, and POP!. Needless to say, I'm gonna put the rear swaybar back on once I fix it, lol. The droop was nice, but it's torn the Hell out of my bushings and now my upper arm . Once I get that bar on, your husband won't be able to laugh at the crazy lean I get making left turns either :D

When/where did it happen? Not on Sat. ?Did you go out yesterday? Anyway, well, the man said he thought you should be ok with just tacking it. If you don't have a welder, we have one here... I thought the left turn lean was kinda cool:D

You were ultimately doomed you know, since you were the only one not broke at all......

Ultimately doomed? LMAO

Think it popped today. I had it in the backyard, and at the bottom is a steep slope. When I turned left into the alley, my axle drooped to the point of being ridiculous, and when I got to level pavement, it stayed there .. I jumped out, looked, and noticed my upper arm was apart. My axle was locked in a full droop. I put it in reverse, and it dropped back down where it should be, so I just slowy drove it up around front and parked it. I guess that's tomorrow's job, to put the junk back together. I'll see if I can get someone around here to tack it. If not, I'll let you know. Thanks :D

i might be missing what you are saying but arent the threads on the RE arms dual purpose, they help adjust pinion angle and also twist when articulating which prevents binding, if you weld up the threads your going to lose both reasons for buying them in the first palce, just buy an extra RE arm and put the trac bar on

No - Teraflex uses arms with threads for articulation, not RE.

The arms probably pulled apart because the jam nut was left loose long enough for the threads to let go. The nut keeps everything tight - keeps threads happy.

Weld it.

RE should replace it for free I would give them a call.

I had the same thing happen to both my tera flex uppers
they sent me new ones but didnt bother to replace the coils, trackbar, shocks, drag link, and everything else thay got fukd in the deal.

The same thing recently happened to another guy in saltlake city who also had teraflex arms.

I disagree. I'd bet lots of money that the threads pulled because the jam nuts were loose. A lack of maintenance isn't RE's fault.

I'm with Nasvik on both points. The jam nuts are there for a reason. Don't ask me how I know.

I welded mine with no ill effects whatsoever ... at least none that matter to me.

Lack of maintenance?? Why, I oughta....... :flipoff2:

LOL,
I do keep up on keeping grease in em, but will confess to never double checking the jam nuts. Oops.
