Just because your a member doesn't mean you have to automatically be a dickhead to people with less posts. I bet you just love to increase your post count with your pointless drivel dont cha:shaking:

I am building a 98 Grand limited currently. I will be using 2" spacers, and 4 1/2 springs. Running 33's and a 4.10 gear. I will get you some pics as I go.

Here's the only 2 pics I have on my work computer: Both from a shake down run last year.

Pic 1 - getting high centered on the belly skid. If you custom build one - make it as high as possible to avoid this.

Pic 2 - the reason you need to think about rocker protection. Either cut out and replace the rockers or just invest in a set of rock sliders.

I did help. I posted 2 links with ZJ pictures like he asked for and pointed out what the moderators said what this forum is supposed all about. If he posted a good tech question I would gladly help.

This forum won't be worth a shit if it's show me your pictures and will my 31's fit. That crap is newbie shit. So show your custom suspension set-ups, frame reinforcements, the custom parts you built yourself and lets make this forum rock. We don't need a Jeeps Unlimited board here on this site.

Thank you. I've been sorta holding back on being an asshole to see if the forum sorts itself out, but I guess it'll need a little encouragement. Game on.

Still think we should put 'hardcore' somewhere in the forum name though, to discourage this kind of thing.

X2, Veteboy. Let's try to keep this forum hard core, in the sense that the mods discussed are significant changes to the XJ's base systems, generally requiring re-engineering to make them work. I think what size tires will fit, and problems bolting on an aftermarket lift kit, or deciding which kit to buy, should be discussed elsewhere. There are cross-over points that are hard to identify, such as putting a V8 into the Cherokee. Unless the issue has to do with modifying the engine bay, frame, or floors in a major way, maybe relevant posts should be discussed in the "General" or "newbie" forums.
For instance, I installed a 350 into my Cherokee, and under direction of Calif SMOG, I HAD TO install '94 truck exhaust manifolds. This required extensive frame mods to fit. In my view, this build would be OK in this new forum; however, General questions like, "which ECM", and "where do I get the adapters", and "what trans could/should I use?", belong elsewhere.
Thoughts?

I miss mine... I was about 3/4 the way done with new suspension, an 8 lug Hp44 and a FF60 when I decided it would be cheaper, easier and safer (I had some crazy plans for the ZJ) to just build a buggy.

I would agree. Something XJ or ZJ specific that requires some substantial (custom!) modding to work I think should go in here. Things that span multiple models, such as engine-to-trans combos, ECMs, axles/tires/gearing, should probably go to either the general Jeep forums or general/newbie depending on the scope of the question.

A "picture" thread isn't a bad thing, but I think it needs to be kept to one thread that people can look through and add to, and ask questions via PM if they want. Between that and any build threads that are posted (I'll be doing one of my own pretty soon) I think that's more than enough inspiration for people lookin to go big or different...and then ya can always ask if you don't see it.

vetteboy79
04-10-2007, 10:58 PM
Lets see what we can make out of it. It needs Moderators right now I believe, since they don't list any(I'd be interested in it). A sticky about this forums goals would also be a great help. As would calling it the Hardcore Station Wagon or unibody board...

Agreed on the sticky & thread name. I'll put some big XJ tech in here once I get my build thread done, but I want to get some more trail time under it before I do so.

Hell, I'd be a mod too, not that I've got any credentials that make me a better choice than anyone else though. In fact 90% of the threads would probably end up elsewhere.

Those are some pretty scary control arm/spring mounts IMO. It shows how not to do somethings and an interesting way to do others. In some regards is kinda cool thou... I'm guessing its from Iceland.

Not too sure about that...it looks like it's constructed solidly enough, but I don't think there's gonna be any real benefit from a setup like that...

The front axle was the one that I was talking about. It and the bracket used to lower the frame end of The LCA.

I thought it was cool how they built the mounts up instead of buying a lift, but I do agree that is kinda scarey. I wonder how long that D30 is going to hold up to those tires:eek:
