: first run out
nuttzack 05-27-2002, 01:45 PM Here's some poser pics that I got this weekend right before the transmission got fuckered up. The thing worked flawlessly all saturday. Has more travel than I know what to do with up here in washington. Think I am gonna have to plan a california trip soon. Hydraulic steering works better than a wet dream. Flopped it on its side after 60 drunken rednecks got me to climb 6 1/2 feet up a tree, gonna have to get the cage done real soon. Forgot the camera on saturday so no good pics.
nuttzack 05-27-2002, 01:50 PM :) :)
nuttzack 05-27-2002, 01:53 PM pretty puss pictures, but all that I took. Get some better one's up after next weekend!
Rockrat 05-27-2002, 01:56 PM Looks Dam good man
freerider 05-27-2002, 02:27 PM that thing is bad!!!! :bounce:
scwafish 05-27-2002, 04:37 PM BOIIIING! That came out sweet! Looks like your steering is hydro assist...give me the 411! I'm thinking about going that route.

I think thats the panhard bar . I'm curious about what pump your running.
So what did your final wheelbase come out to?... we are just figuring that out on my rig right now... I have the exact size tire you are running.... how did you like you wheelbase where it is??
And it looks great man...
nuttzack 05-27-2002, 05:57 PM It's not assist it's full hydro scawfish and it works Awesome. I am running a saginaw pump out of a 88 cadilac deville(haha)! Took it on a little test run as soon as I got it finished and started puking fluid everywhere after about 30 minutes of really working it, so I stayed up all night friday at camp and installed a cooler and had zero problems after 13 hours of straight wheeling. Full width the final wheel base is 96 1/2 and I love every inch of it. I might pull the rear out another 2" though. It was very stable on every obstacle and there were some downright scary side slopes. Never had a tire come off the ground once no matter what I tried to climb, well except for once;)
scwafish 05-27-2002, 06:02 PM Thanks. What kind of box? pics?
nuttzack 05-27-2002, 06:10 PM The orbital valve is a parker and I got it from wagoner machine shop. com for 350 and then 50 more for a key way shaft the turns the valve and hooks to your shaft(with alterations). They can get you one to fit any application and any sort of lock to lock ratio. My ration is at 3 1/4 turns lock to lock, which is about the same as the new chevy pickups. I will take a picture tommarow of how I mounted it. I just used some angle iron. The shaft they sent me for the valve originally had threads on the end for a spicer shaft and u-joint that can be custom ordered to fit just about any vehicle, but I had a borgesson need-joint steering shaft laying around, so I ground off the threads on their shaft to fit the borgesson shaft. Worked awesome and the steering is tighted than... you know!:) Scaw you would love it. It is definitely one of the coolest things on my rig!

Is that the cadillac remote reservoir pump?
I keep forgetting which caddy they are in..
nuttzack 05-27-2002, 07:01 PM NO it's not. It's just like any saginaw pump you would see on an 1973-87 chevy pickup. in fact the resovoir looks a little bigger, but I could be seeing things:smokin:
twistedmetal 05-27-2002, 08:33 PM Looking REAL good, Nuttz. Looks like you pulled the geometry perfectly, Do the pinions even change arcs? Here's an "Atta boy, Nuttz!" and a  for ya'!
But, if that's a beer in your hand, I wouldn't send that pic to any mags!
scwafish 05-27-2002, 11:27 PM Nuts-Do you think your steering is streetable? All of the full hydro stuff Ive messed with was a handful over 10-15 mph.
nuttzack 05-28-2002, 04:02 AM thanks twisted! THe pinions do change a bit cause the uppers are 4 inches shorter, but not enough to hurt anything. Beer, I don't drink beer:beer:
Scaw, I had to drive about 2 miles down the highway to get to a trail this weekend and was going about 45 with no probs. It's definitely a white knuckle ride, but not that scary, just hold on. NOt a legal setup by any means and I won't drive it on the road if I don't have to, but it can be done. The valve and turn ratio worked really well.
poppycock 05-28-2002, 11:00 AM nice work!
nuttzack 05-28-2002, 01:59 PM took some pics of the orbital valve, ram, and pump set up for those who were interested.
nuttzack 05-28-2002, 01:59 PM :)
nuttzack 05-28-2002, 02:00 PM
nuttzack 05-28-2002, 02:03 PM  I guess I didn't have the bolts holding the coil tight enough cause the spring twisted on one end! Oh well
MudKick 05-28-2002, 02:59 PM What coils are uou runnig? Are they custum or out of something else? They look nice and skinny. Do you know the spring rate?

Do a search under his name... he has anserwed that question more times than he wants to I'm sure. They came from summit but can't remember the rates.... 140-160? Pretty soft...
nuttzack 05-28-2002, 10:32 PM thanks full width:p
hey, were you on a designated trail when those pic's were taken?? doens't look like one i've ever seen, remember the fine is PHAT for going off the designated trail @ liberty... not flamin ya, just trying to be helpful...
lojones 05-29-2002, 03:10 PM Hey Nuttzack, I met you out in Liberty this last weekend, I had the black Sammi with the blue coil suspension.
Anyhow I noticed your bent spring when you came by the camp. I would say it is from over compression. The picture above where your ramped on the stump, that spring is prob way too compressed.
Also from the pic above of the rear bars, are they all mounted on the top of the axle? what keeps your axle from wrapping up?
great job on the rig buildup, it looks great.
nuttzack 05-29-2002, 03:49 PM Caught red handed!! Thats about 200 feet off the trail on the way to lion's head, but I was nice to mother nature.
HEy lonny, I don't think it was from overcompression cause the other springs compress just as much and also the little u joints that hold the coil down were all loose. Yes all the links are on top of the axle center line. The axle doesn't twist because the brace on top of the axle for the upper links. A general rule of thumb is as long as you have at least 6 1/2" of spread or distance between your upper and lower links you should be okay. More spread of course is better, it all depends on how much room you have to work with.
AdamC 05-29-2002, 06:04 PM So seems how I live in Olympia, where is this place you guys call Liberty, yeah I know I dont get out much but hey I wouldnt mind maybe knowing where it is at, so when I finally get off my lazy ass and do some wheelin I can go check it out.
nuttzack 05-29-2002, 06:41 PM liberty is about 40 minutes north of cle elum, which is right after snoqualmie pass. Where do you live in olympia?
olympia's over rated :flipoff2:
AdamC 05-30-2002, 02:13 PM Okay so I guess I live in Tumwater, I live on Tilley rd. which is south of the Airport.
