I have a 74 Chevy c10 with a 454, turbo 400, and a Np 205 tranfercase This t case now is full time 4X4 I have herd that there is some kind of kit to make 4x4 optional does anyone know anything of this? I do some street driving to get to the area's I go to and want to cut down a little wear and tare on my truck what are your opinions on this?

I think you have a 203 case and milemarker sells a kit for it.

You do not have a 205 if it is full time 4X4

a np205 will swap into your truck easily.

if you try to put the 205 in there, it will fit with no problem, the problem will come later, like when you try to hook up the drive shafts to it

Dont bother with the part time kit. I did it in my 76 and it really didnt help. The front shaft still spins as do the gears, etc. The only thing that doesnt is the lockouts you put on it that come with the kit. Just my opinion, but spend your time and money on a 205 instead.

im kinda a newbie my self but to swap in a 205 in replace of a np203 you need a different adaptor plate also. i got a 203 in my truck now and im about to swap in a 205 and the adaptor plate is way different

So is this a 203???

Yup. Not my pic but here you go. 205 has a small indexing plate that gives it away. Other than that it's a little hard to tell when they are in the vehicle. See pic of 205. Indexing plate is circled.

the np203 is bigger and a heavy pig.

So now that I know I have a 203 and my seals are leaking I have another t-case in the storage i need to look at I should swap to a 205 1 because it is gear driven what are some other pluses?
