Posted a few weeks back with a Lock Right problem: To those who indicated broken pins - you were correct. Thanks to all for the advice. Drove all Friday night/Saturday morning to South Carolina (GSMTR bound), arrived at a friends place, and with 40 minutes sleep tore into the front end. Did have a slightly busted hub, but everything else looked perfect...
If I did'nt know to check the pins I would have almost put it all back together, but lo and behold under close inpection I found 3 out of 4 of the pins were sheered. So clean you almost could'nt tell.
No damage to the lock right - put new pins in and wheeled all week at GSMTR.
Thanks again. :D

Yah, thanks for the followup.
Did you check your side shim clearances? If yes, were they within the tolerances?

Bill;
Good to hear you had fun and all is now well with the "old garage whore".
I have a question: What is the correct tolerance for the side gears?
(and YES I did a search and looked at ih8mud and elsewhere including my Toyota manual (but I may be partially blind :)) :flipoff2: ).
Thanks.

The tolerances are measured between the center pin and the "axle caps" and are found in your lockrite owners manual. If your side gear shims are too thin then you'll likely strip the teeth off the lockrite:(
My search came up with my previous post on this. The specs in this thread don't quite match up with what my lockrite book said but I can't give you the specifics until I double check from home (or someone else checks theirs and posts here:p )

Clearances were right on the money. If I remember correctly I measured almost right on the .156 specified as optimal. I think you're ok between something like .145 and .170
No flames if I've remembered incorrectly, but I did look up the Lock Right specs when I did it. :flipoff2:
Hopefully I'll have a ARB in the front by next year as I did win the 40% off ARB products gift certificate at the raffle. :D Plus a Ramsey winch. :D :D and a t-shirt and some lights. :D :D
Woo hoo, my drink more :beer: :beer: :beer: at the raffle theory worked - positive vibes equals raffle winnings... Ooops, rambling again......

So should it matter whether you adjust the clearance with the side gear shims or using different centerblocks? It seems to me that it shouldn't make a difference but I just thought I would ask for general knowledge.
Thanks for the info.
