: 3RZ Starter prob.
Cheapj7 04-10-2007, 09:32 PM Hey guys, I've got a 96 taco with the 3RZ. When you hit the switch all i get is a click. And no it's not the beat on the starter click or the i beat my battery cables on click. At first it would do it 3 or 4 times then start, then it went to 20 or 30 times, n now it won't start at all. You can roll it off and it does fine. Someone mentioned a cam or crank position sensor. Not sure. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys, Jon
jtaco1 04-11-2007, 07:05 AM Rebuild the starter. The clicking is from a worn out plunger and contact points. Check over on TTORA and search starter rebuild. Should come up with a post that has the part numbers and the rebuild. I did this a few months ago. The hardest part is getting the starter out of the truck, the actual rebuild takes like ten minutes.

Cheapj7 04-11-2007, 08:13 PM Thanks guys, I'll try that next week. It sucks that i've got my straight axle on the way n my truck won't even start. Here's the truck as it sits now. Just to put a truck with the prob.

98taco4x 04-13-2007, 09:57 AM Wow those shackles are super scary in so many ways.
Cheapj7 04-13-2007, 10:21 AM yea, that's why it's still resting on the jack stands. Those are only supporting the weight of the springs.
toc-yo 04-13-2007, 06:27 PM Just wondering y:laughing: ou have done all THAT and have a starter question.
98taco4x 04-14-2007, 08:21 AM Your shackles should be straight and have spacers if everything doesn't line up.
If all else fails you just have to buy a starter.

Really??? Huh. I thought i could just tighten them down like that. No, allpro has the slowest freakin shipping in the world. I've got the correct shackles coming.

98taco4x 04-16-2007, 02:15 PM Just trying to keep you alive and wheelin
Cheapj7 04-17-2007, 11:18 PM No doubt. That's hard enough without your own truck fallin on you.
96 4-runner 04-21-2007, 04:02 PM its sounds like the starter points they wear out the cheap i didn't even take the starter out. i got mine from the dealer. hope that helps
Cheapj7 04-30-2007, 07:42 PM Thanks guys. Got my starter rebuilt yesterday. The points were worn. It starts like a champ now. Now to just get the rest of the bugs worked out of it...
88yota96taco 05-07-2007, 02:04 PM Yeah so i was just heading out side to go yank my starter out and see what the hell was up with it. Its doing exactly what yours was. I figured it was a bad ground. Or should I say I was HOPING it was a bad ground. But yeah so would it be cheaper to fix this one or buy a rebuilt one for about 70 bux? Eehh whatever im just gonna pull it out and get another one. I just wanted to say how perfect the timing was on this post.
Cheapj7 05-08-2007, 09:38 PM I took mine to the local starter shop and the guy rebuilt it in about 4 hours. Put new points in it, cleaned tohe mud out, and sand blaster and painted the outside. 40 bucks. Figured that was better to keep my taco starter than a cheap auto-zone remanufactured knock off.
