This weekend I am going to go down to pick-n-pull and look for some axles for my early bronco. I think I am going to look for a full width d60 rear and a full width d44 front with disc brakes. I was wondering what to look for, whats good and whats bad, and how make sure im looking at the right axle. Also, eventually I want to run a 36" tire, would it be easier and cheaper to run d44's front and rear? Any info helps
Thanks a lot

44/60 will be fine for 36s
ur gonna have to get a front ford or waggy axle cuz of the side drop you need, rear doesnt matter what it comes out of, you gotta decided if you want semi or full float. i was at the fairfield pic n pull and there were PLENTY of rear 60s, 9"s, i didnt see too many driver drop front 44s though.
how do I tell the difference from a semi or full float rear axle? Also, can I get a d44 with a driver side pumpkin out of a waggy? I saw one in a local pick-n-pull, so I will go try to get it. One more thing, are the axles on waggies and fords all full length?
Thanks a lot

depends on the year waggy, some were driver, some were passenger. as for difference between FF and SF, FF have a big hub just like a front, SF dont. FF you can pull the axle shaft out and still be able to drive around, SF all the weight of the vehicle is on the axle so you cant drive around w/out both axle shafts in place. dont know the specs on widths, why not find a ford 4x4 pick up and use a 44/9" combo?
I have a 9" rear and a d30 right now in my bronco and I was thinking it my be better to just go full length dana's front and rear. Do you think that a 9"/d44 combo off a full size would be better and easier?
Thanks
depends on if you have a big bearing 9". get the axles off a truck that way they are about the same width and put 60 ends on the 9" and put in 35 spline axles. do a search, this has been covered a lot of times, Phil(sillyneck) has a 35spl 9" rear

On my 74 Bronco I did a 14 bolt rear which turned out to be way sweet of a choice...I didn't know how sweet of an axle it was until a I pulled it apart to change the fluid...really impressive setup and easy to work on too...
For the front I chose a 1976 F150 HP44. DO NOT get the 78 or 79 HP 44s as those weird radius ears are cast onto the tubes somehow and are really weak at that point.
The ultimate if you have the fab skills would be to run a HP 60 out of a 72-77 and then just put the bracketry from your Bronco axle on it...
