Hey, I am planning a v6 swap this winter and thought I'd ask anyone w/ a vortec v6 and something close to 4.88 gears what size tires they are running that the engine can handle turning on the street. People w/ yotas were saying that they are turning 38's to 42's.

I can't see a problem with that. my '00 4.3 is turning 33s with the factory 3.73 for now and it does just fine. I'm running about 2 grand at 75 mph in OD. I added the K&N and Hpp3 and it was a nice gain. before I added the lockright in the rear I could actually break the rear 33s loose for about a foot. (had a gov-loc)
I will probably goto 4.56s when I jump to 35s (same time as SAS)
just make sure the vortec motor you're using is strong to begin with

sweet I seperated the front d-shaft on tank trap about 3 weeks ago. I put it on an RTI ramp and it ramps about 1125. It rides good to for leafs on the front. gas sucks thought 13.6 miles to the gallon.

Newbie here-
My advice... Go with the 4.56 gears !
I'm running 33" (32.5") tires.
Sometime in Sept.,,, my new 5.38s will show up at the door via UPS :p
You should have NO problem with 33s or 35s...
other than that, you'd better check the drive shaft & U-joints :skull:
Do you have any lockers ?

hmmm... 42s sound reasonable too
