I'm setting up a front 4 link in an LC & was wondering if a TJ has a triangulated 4 link from the factory why it needs a trac bar? Does it still move side to side when the pinion drops? I could converge both uppers in a wishbone design if that'll help alleviate the trac bar...

Because the front suspension on a TJ isn't triangulated, the track bar is needed.

The uppers are angled inwards, not 100% though. Look at any factory setup & you'll see one goes to the top of the pinion from the frame & the other mirrors it closely. I asked because I've talked to a local 4x shop & they run setups similar to stock TJ's w/o the trac bar. Still

I own a TJ - the stock front suspension is non-triangulated. The driver's side upper is located on the pumpkin - the passenger side upper is located way over on the passenger side tube - so NO, the stock setup isn't triangulated.
Are you sure the local 4X shop's TJ doesn't have an aftermarket or custom triangulated front 4 link? I know when I've had my track bar disconnected, even turning the wheels side to side at a stop makes for some interesting body movement in contrast to where the front end is...
Edit: Ok, I see what you're saying. The front uppers do have a SLIGHT angle inwards, but IMHO, not enough to enable ditching the trackbar altogether.

I just got off the phone with another guy at a 4x shop & he confirmed what you said - not enough triangulation. I have a problem where my LC frame is narrow & close to the oilpan which cannot let me truly triangulate w/o raising my ride height to clear. I could curve the uppers but I may as well converge them in a wishbone style. Thanks for the help :grinpimp:
