: Help reading my plugs

This is the plug for my number 1 cylinder on my '79 20R. The plug has 6000 miles on it.
I pulled it trying to get the piston at top dead center to put my distibutor back on and thought to myself, "this doesn't look right..."

According to Haynes, it falls in the "oil deposit" condition.
It also says that it is "caused by poor oil control. Oil is leaking past worn valve guides or piston rings into the combustion chamber."

I guess I need an interpretation of "poor oil control," or if I misread the plug, I'm looking for some help reading it properly.
If I'm reading it right, I need a rebuild?

that plug isn't oil fouled, I wish mine looked that good. I wouldn't be tearing down an engine for that.

how many miles?
how much oil do you add?
have you done a compression check yet?
does it miss?

Maybe a touch rich, but I wouldn't worry about them.
If your trucks using less than a quart every 3000 miles you have no oil control problem

how many miles?

The truck's an '84 that came with a '79 motor in the bed. I didn't have a history on the '79 motor, but the '84 blew up. So for miles, I'm not sure. Truck's at 208k but I don't think that matters.

how much oil do you add?
I've added 1 quart in the past 5k. (Need to change my oil in -2000 miles)

have you done a compression check yet?

Nope

does it miss?
Like crazy. At idle, it's perfect, but the higher the RPMs, the worse it gets.

I truely don't think that the motor's ready for a rebuild. The only thing that hinted that to me was the plugs. I think it's more of a rich burn, but that's not what Haynes was telling me, so that's why I came to the masters here.

Shouldn't a good plug be tan?

looks way rich - carb problems - should be a golden brown - id put new plugs in one heat range hotter - and check the timing/ advance - have someone good at carbs rebuild / tune it
