im looking for a first aid kit to keep in the truck etc. there is some discussion on first aid in the SHTF bag thread, but i wanted more specific info.

namely: http://www.armygear.net/ag/store/0630.html?id=76pV9KrT

is that a decent kit for the price? the company is local to me so i can drive to the store and pick one up.

any other suggestions would be appreciated.

I picked up a kit from Sam's Club a couple years ago before a big club wheeling trip. Hard Plastic case with meds like different kinds of pain killer (aspirin and non-asp), antacids, insect bite ointments, disposable thermometers, all sorts of bandaids, iodine, packing, etc. (a lot of stuff) for cheap. I think it was under $20.

For how many and what length of time? To me, that seems awfully light. I had a lot of trouble finding a First Aid kit that I like, and ended up building one myself, for what I would need, figuring being away for a week or more. It is oriented to my skill level, so nothing to stich me up or anything, if it comes to that I'll bleed to death.

My Sister needed a good First Aid kit and after checking the local sporting goods stores and more hunting oriented stores, I found what they had exteremly lacking. I ended up an REI (only shop there as a last resort) and got her a really nice kit that included stiching and minor surgery tools. She's a Vetranarian, so she can use them correctly. Now my local Sportman's Warehouse has the same kit I got her at REI. Not 100% the same brand and all, but same contents. I think it ran about $115 bucks, but it will support a few people for a few days, so it's worth it.

Hmmmm....I need to go through my first aid kit and rotate some medication and check badage supply. I can't remember the last time I used it, so I guess it's time.

check sierratradingpost.com for their kits from Adventure Medical Kits. They've got some good prices - especially on the more complete kits.

The kit linked is kinda small, the box measures ~4x4x1.5"
The box isn't 100% water tight, but pretty darn close. The nylon case has two metal Alice clips on the back.
To be honest you are paying a lot of money for the carrier and they throw in a couple bandaids.
The M3 medic bag is more appropriate for an invehicle kit IMO. But that's just because of the large size and the shoulder strap makes it convieniant to grab and go. You can find surplus empty ones and fill it with what you think is best from Walgreens.

Here is one that is filled, $55

This one was posted in the Desert Race Forum.http://www.armor-craft.com/Products/EMT.html I'm not an EMT so I can't tell you how complete the kit is. Maybe someone can post up their thoughts.

build it would most likely be the best thing to do.. and you could get most of the stuff from your home supply of bandages, asprin, bug bite stuff, and the like

Costco Online had a nice one, though I just looked and it's gone. But they have several others if you search.
