Going to help my nephew that stripped out a spark plug . I am going to pick up a 14 mm Helicoil kit and try to do this with the head on.
I am looking for any tips , suggestions you may have on the procedure.
Since it' an aluminum head do I need to drill or just go after it tap?
I was going to grease the tap to try to catch shavings and vacuum out anything after I tap or drill. Never having used a helicoil do I break the tang off after the coil goes in and hope I can vacuum it out?
Don't want to be buying a head here!!

I did a search .....just looking for as much advice as possible.

Thanks

Dont use a helicoil thay just pull out. Get a timesert kit thay are much stonger. To get the metal out use a vacume y and some ruber tubing and an air blower. put a 4 in section betwen the blower and the 2 closest fingers of the y the other close finger put a peace of tubing long enugh to fit in th plug hole. when you pull the triger it work like a vacume and pulls the metal out:smokin:

Could depend on how bad it is. If it's really bad, doesn't tighten up, or feels really sloppy, then that would be a good fix. If the threads are not that bad, you could just chase the threads and then decide if you want to take the next step. The inserts work pretty good.
