: Anyone use Klune V under drive?
freak007 05-28-2002, 07:50 AM ok,as some of you know i am building a 78 dodge W150,it will have a 360 with 9:1 compression,204/216 crane cam, pocket ported heads, headers, duals, and a TF727it will keep the NP203,and full time 4wd...4.10 gears and 35" tires are also in the works...
I am concidering addind a Klune V underdrive system, but do not know if it is worth it,also which unit would you reccomend and why "David"(4:1 reduction) or "Goliath" (2.71:1 reduction)
this truck is primarily a daily driver/tow truck, with occasional(weekly?) off road time
lots of people use klune v products. they have a good reputation. if it were my truck i would use the 4:1 gear set.
skank da sock puppet 05-28-2002, 09:06 AM ...the reason to to with the 4:1 is that it increases your options. You can engage the stock case for 2:1, the Klune-V for 4:1 or both of them for compound reduction of 8:1. I have a Klune (great product from great people) but went with the 2.7:1 because I'm running 4:1 in the t-case in order to keep the torque multiplication down stream.
Charles Aarons 05-28-2002, 02:50 PM Why not save a bunch of $$ and use the 203 reduction box in front of a 205? You'll still have 50:1 even without taking into account torque convertor ratio. You'll save about $2000.

freak007 05-29-2002, 06:25 AM wouldn't I need the 205 in front of the 203 in order to keep my full time 4wd??how hard is it to do? what is involved in it??
GRMhick 05-29-2002, 08:30 AM If I am right, ORD now makes a dodge 203/dodge 205 adapter. I was reading somewhere that the dodge 205 is 23 spline, I was also reading that the 205 is a direct bolt up replacment for the 208, and i have seen the 208 bolt up and replace the 203, which makes me want to think that a 23 spline dodge 203 should bolt up where a 23 spline 205 should be. One day i will have to let you know.. I have 2 203's and plan on doing the same thing, then add a 205 behind that for the hell of it.
I would call up steven watson at ord (www.offroaddesign.com) and ask him, i am sure he knows, and i am 50% sure you can use that adapter, and save about $1+k

GRMhick 05-29-2002, 08:33 AM Also, to add, WMS (http://www.wagonermachine.com/new_products.htm) Makes a 3.6:1 gear set for the 203.. which may be better for you, unless oyu want more gears.. that way you odnt have to change the driveshafts, skid plates, etc.

(BTW: i have been building a 77 W-100 for awhile.. unless you couldnt tell.. I love these trucks.. so post a pic)
freak007 05-30-2002, 05:14 AM is there a way to run a doubler ans still keep the FT 4wd??
how hard is it to install?what does it cost compared to the klune??
GRMhick 05-30-2002, 08:03 AM Well, if I am right, a dodge 203 should be a bolt up replacment for an 80's dodge 205 (I am 90% sure on this.. but not 100%). If that is so, all you do is get another 203, get the Kit from ORD, slap the new output shaft in the low range box, Bolt the low range in, bolt in the adapter, then bolt in the 203 behind the 203 low range box. Should be that easy, but of course it never is, but I will put money on it, it will probabablly be easier than a klune, less $$, and stronger. Or, if you dont mind going to part time, bolt up either a chevy or a dodge 205, and you wont even need to chenge the rear drveshaft, only the front will have to be lengthened. It is all up to you. If i Were you, i would give steven watson (www.offroaddesign.com) a call. He is a great guy, and will tell you everything you need, and probabally more. He builds these TC setups, so he knows better than probabally almost anyone on this board.

freak007 05-31-2002, 04:33 AM hmm 203/203 doubler...gives me 2 low ranges...2:1,and 4:1
what about the 255(?) and 203 2:1,2.7:1,5:1 or maybe an 3:1 gearset for a 203,and run the 203/203 doubler...2:1 3:1 6:1...
ONETUFF76 06-01-2002, 05:57 PM If you do go with the klune-V I would run the goliath being as that your going to be using it as a tow rig. If you check out their site it says the david is meant mainly for lighter rigs. Granted it's still a stout unit. I'd be safe since you're going to be towing and go with the goliath.

I say go for that setup if you got the $$$. Be cool, just heavy. 2.01:1, 3.6:1, or 7.236:1 all in the transfer case, and you can retain the full time. Just hope you dont have those weak little bearings in the front axle...
freak007 06-02-2002, 06:13 AM one question though...what is it going to COST to buy 1 and rebuild 2 transfer cases, one stock, one with 3.6 low range, buy the doubler kit, install it etc...it would be almost identical(gearwise) to the klune david, but what about cost?durability?ease of instalation?
I am thinking it would STILL be more practical to go with the Klune...I like the idea of the david, but if you think the golioth would be more durable, maybe I should go with a 255/203 doubler,it would have the same gears, but would cost less...
I have NO idea what I am doing here :P I am very indecisive,I know what I want, but how do I get it...
