31's should fit stock no problem.

on explorers, 31's fit stock. with a 4 inch lift he should be clearing 33's fairly easily.

Yea I am running 31's right now with no lift, seems like a waste to make that much room for such a small tire

definatly need bigger tires for 4 inch lift,

ok, i was just basing the 31s on that is what the lift kits said the max tire size is.

Get the drop brackets for up front and do an soa in the rear.

I have the superlift kit on the front with the exteneded radius arms and SOA out back with an add-a-leaf to get about 6 inches. I like it, but the front springs are a little too stiff so flex is limited.

I am running 35x12.5's and would have minor rubbing in front if I didn't have glass fenders. Actually I think I trimmed the rear lower portion just a hair.

I did have 31x10.5 on mine before the lift with no problems.

Skyjacker does not make a lift for the gen 2 explorer (IFS) unless he means TTB ifs, then i retract my statement. superlift, trailmaster and rcd make lifts for the explorer. trailmaster is the least desireable due to the knuckle spacer, whereas the superlift has a new longer knuckle to replace the stock one. rcd is the most desireable as it elimates the torsion bars in lieu of the coilovers. the rcd would be good for desert racing/lighter trails. for that kind of money a SAS would be a better way to go.

if all the guy wants is 31's, crank the torsion bars, toss in an addaleaf and extended shackles and there will be PLENTY of room for 31x10.50's

No, this one has TTB 4wd. So im thinkin to tell him to get a 4 inch kit with the 15 inch longer radius arms. This rig is mostly a pavement pounder from what ive been told but i guess it mite go wheelin sometimes, i dunno. With the 4 inch, would 33's be good im assumin. Id prefer to just put a kit on that uses new rear leafs and since its mostly for the road, an soa is not necessary. I wasnt able to find a lot about the skyjacker stuff, but ive gotta suggest them since its a good name.

If he plans on doing any off roading Don't waste the money on a store bought lift. I had a 93 with a 5.5" Superlift. The bracketry to drop the TTB is very week. He will tweak and break it in no time. You really need the Superunner steering and radius arms to do it right. By the time he spends all the money on those parts he could have gotten most of a SAS complete with a more reliable SOLID D44 up front. He can go as big as he wants at that point. just my .02. Good luck.

I had a 4" Trail Master on my old '92 with 33s and eventually went with 35s. Once I clearanced the pass side drop bracket, (will punch a hole in the aluminum diff) it was my dd and I beat the shit out of it and never had a problem. Good luck.

Just after installing the lift with 33s:

They are!!.....The D35 is Cast Aluminum. The D44's are the cast iron ones.

did ya miss the DAILY DRIVER part of the intro??..he's lookin for something mild man..no reason to go hackin the stock axle out (just cuz everybody else does it)..less than a 6in lift and he's still ok with a drop pitman arm..yes the cheaper kit bracketry is WEAK.....my skyjacker took several direct hits..and only deformed once (and I found out it was cus the installer forgot a dam support bolt..VERY IMPORTANT TO INSTALL ALL THE BOLTS IN A KIT!!(to you MR Installer GUY!! whoever you are))

I wheeled mine with 35's..lockers and a heavy right foot for 2 years..orange trail at Badlands OHV..paintedrock OHV (monthly!!)...never did any damage..(that want due to the installer)...for someone wanting to keep it stock..go ahead with the brackets..get a good kit..and enjoy yourself..
