My front axle hi/neutral/low stick works fine, a little tough but it'll do. My rear axle hi range will stay engaged under all conditions, shifting to neutral and low is fine but it pops out of low if I'm only putting power to the rear end. I know it's a common issue. My question is this, if I remove my inspection cover on the bottom of the case can I get to the detent's for the rear axle from there or does the case have to come apart to fix it?

you're not supposed to be able to get just rear low. there's a pill that prevents this. take out the pill and you will be able to engage rear low only. but be careful you don't engage rear low and front high or some other blasphemy.

I guess I wasn't clear. As it sits right now I can put no power to the front axle and just use either rear wheel hi or low. Only when in rear low does it want to pop out. When I have no power to the rear end and only use the front I can shift between hi and low and it doesn't pop out of either selection.
So how does one fix the rear wheel low?

There's a place down in CA that has all the Dana 20-300 stuff. I asked them for a much stronger spring and he sent them, purple I think. I used it with two or three little washers for more tension and had no more rear wheel drive popping out. If you have any play in your output shafts that will also cause popping out of gear.

Well needless to say Mark that's not what I wanted to read. For some reason I thought that the rear wheel stick could be reached from the bottom through the inspection area. It was a nice thought. If I could come up with a Tera Low kit for a D20 auto I'd go that route and sell the 300. I think a 4:1would be too much for me but the 3.15 would be nice. Oh well, wish in one hand....
