: How are beadlocks made?
Brawler 05-28-2002, 09:26 AM A lot of people seem to be makeing their own beadlocks and i was wondering what is involved. I know you can remove the outer lip with either a lathe or a sawzal, but does anyone have a build-up or slide of pics on how it is done? Would like to see how difficult it is before i go any further.
How about you read the TECH section of this very site?
Brawler 05-28-2002, 10:36 AM Thanks, didn't really think that was a " do it yourself " beadlock because of the rockstomper part. Can someone clarify what has to be done to the wheel before you install the inner ring? To me it doesn't look all that difficult to make the rings in any design you want providing you have the proper equiptment.
fabricator 05-28-2002, 10:51 AM take a grinder and clean the outer lip of your wheel
take your inner beadlock ring and weld it
the the outer lip of your wheel.
The inside of tire goes in its proper place and
the outside of tire goes on the outside of welded ring,
then take the other ring and smash the tire until
you are tired of screwing with the bolts.
hope this helps.
Hayraker 05-28-2002, 10:52 AM build your rings, and install them just like rockstompers, theirs are basically homemade rings just like what you would make. Not much to do to the wheel other than weld them on.
Brawler 05-28-2002, 12:39 PM I was under the impression that you had to modify the wheel by using a lathe or sawzal to remove the outer lip. So what you guys are saying is i just need to clean it and remove any dirt and grim, weld right to the outer lip. Sounds pretty easy. Can it be done on all steel wheels?
Brawler 05-28-2002, 12:47 PM Also, could one just use bolts or do they need to a nutsert of some kind? This pic shows the rock-a-thong beadlock and it looks like they use a nutsert also. Seems that bolts and nylocks would work ok. Yeah?
Scott (rockstomper) sells his with nylock nuts or nutserts, seems like its not worth spending the time to do it yourself though, since you can mailorder his for a reasonable price.

Man - do a SEARCH - all of this has been discussed at length before... recently to be exact.
You do NOT have to cut the wheel to make your own beadlocks....

I'll second that. I know of a thread that even includes dimensions of the inner and outer rings. :flipoff2: :flipoff2: :flipoff2:
fabricator 05-28-2002, 02:25 PM just use 3/8" bolts with nylok nuts and go, go, go!

Seems that a lot of things get posted in double or even triplicate. So thank you for your input.
I will do a more thorough search!
