: Ship Toyota Axles?

I searched the site and saw that a few others mentioned shipping axles, but I am looking for a different alternative than Forward Air. Forward Air does not service near the shippers area, but they service the receivers area (mine). I have 2 complete axles and 1 bare axle housing coming and I am unclear on the shipping arrangements.

What other companies has anyone shipped axles with?

How do you crate them/box them up? Anyone can get a standard wooden pallet, but they would hang off the crate pretty bad.

What would be an estimated shipping cost from 1 mid-USA location to another mid-USA location (roughly 500 miles)?

Also the axles are dirty/greasy. If the axles are exposed when shipped, does it have to be a clean item (not greasy)?

For 500 miles, why not meet halfway, or have one party drive all the way and to get/deliver them?

Otherwise, box them up and ship them via UPS, one axle/box.

Thanks for the suggestion 4crawlr, but UPS will not accept a package that has this weight and the girth is too large (maximum Length + Width/whatever, too large of a box/part).
Right now I am trying to weigh my options and which would be better:
Look into someone else (friend of a friend) haulin them (I have to pay for this)
Do a day trip and drive
Pay for outright shipping

I have all of my options figuerd out except for the cost for outright shipping. I am just looking into it and if I sell one of the axles, I will need to know the shipping costs at that time.

BTW, who sells the low profile drain plugs?
I had a few, but they were sold with my 84 truck and I want a few more. I purchased through Marlin a few years ago. Does he still sell them and what is his website addy?

I just shipped a rear axle via UPS and my front axle came via UPS (front cost ~$100 for ~400 mile delivery). The key is to break it down to fit. UPS max dims are 108" length or 130" length plus girth. You may need more than 1 box.

Other option is by bus.

I just shipped an IFS rear axle housing from Alabama to Texas via Fedex. I think the Fedex ground cost was $20. The Fedex site "rate" link will give you a pretty accurate cost. Weigh it, measure it and go to www.fedex.com.

Buddy of mine just had a Dana 60 shipped to him via UPS, but it was delivered to a business, not residential.

I wrapped my housing in an old piece of snatch strap (to protect the sharp edges), then an old sheet, then wrapped it in cellophane from uhaul, then wrapped it in duct tape. Recipient said he got it and didn't complain, so I assume it got there.

The lady behind the counter at Fedex said "what the ?? - No, wait, I dont want to know!!"

I just had a 97 4runner rear axle minus 3rd shipped with drums.

$87 from NY to Washington, via forward air.

I agree with meeting half way. Sure its a long drive but gas could be less than shipping. Also you have the chance to shake hands and get to know another 4wheeling buddy.
