I am going to do something with the motor in my truck. As of now its got 36's, welded front and rear 60/14 bolt with 5.13's. I will go to a larger tire, but I am undecided. Would a 302 just not have enough power? I have an np435/205 right now. I think it would be pretty bad ass to have a well built 302, but thats a puny ass motor nonetheless which will never have the power of a big block. Another option is to build an FE ground up (unlike my previous 3 builds using used junk and paying for it when it drinks oil) probly a 410 (390 w/ 428 crank) or a 428 if I can find a standard 428 block. I found a 428 CJ block for $200 but my dad wouldnt let me use it. . I really want to save up and find a 427 block and toss in the 428 crankshaft. 454 FE sounds pretty good to me. What would the best route to go be? I dont have access to really any 460 parts, I work at a mustang restoration kinda shop so we have small block and fe stuff. Any opinions on those running 302s?

I'd build a 351 over a 302. a 408 stroker would be perfect IMO:smokin:

just freshen up the FE you have and call it good.

Thats what I had thought of before, Ive got a 377 forged crank that is tempting, but the thought of putting a small block in my truck when my open-track coupe is sitting with no engine hurts. I have "freshened" the FE up 3 times and it still uses oil. Anyone running 428's or 410's? That 428 crank has got to make an assload of torque, its soo damn heavy
heavy trucks need big motors
a 302 is out of its element

Want to stay cheap? Freshen up your FE. But if your going to drop $$$ into building an engine it might as well be a 460 for your usages.

X2 on Pro. FE's are not inexpensive. Go Big or ............Constantly JONES for more axle/driveline wrenching Blue Oval power.:flipoff2:

Yeah that makes sense, who makes headers for the FE? Anyone making fender exits? Thats another reason I was thinking about changing motors was becuase I need new headers anyways so might as well not let that stop me. I have been thinking of making my own, but that will be a chore.

If your going to build a 460 might as well build a 514:smokin:
I've seen 408 strokers push 400+ hp plus they are lighter than a 460. That would be more than enough for 36's on general trails. Don't get me wrong though, if I had the brains to figure out all of the electronics, I'd have a 460 or 514 sitting in my junk this week.

I had some Stan's on my 428, they were awesome. Gotta love the ball and socket over flanged connectors. Worth it to get them coated, too.

Those look nice for the price.... That ball and socket is way better too. I wish they were all like that, they seal better. Fawkin 410 pistons are almost 600 bucks for an aftermarket set. I need to find me another 428 block. I really like the FE's for some reason. Edit- Damn those headers look to be truck only pattern. Guess I need to redrill my heads
