Let me be first to say that is one awsome buildup, nice attention to detail.

Very cool. I wish we had some hill climb action like that in the USA. How do you keep the D18 together behind that much horsepower and abuse?

Some info about how my rig have worked this far: broke one birfield last summer because too much steering angle (probably):homer:. So I order a set of 30-spline longs and new hubgears and made steering stops on the steering cylinder, and "filled up" the steering stops on the toyota housing with my welder. Then I mounted a nos-kit to "shock" the turbo because I have 2700rpm stallspeed, but the engine runs good from 4000rpm. Before I even tested the nos-system, my dana18 broke. This winter I switched to a transfercase from a Volvo c303 ( the one with portals). Now I think it`s working nice, the nos-system works great, I add only about 40hp nos (the engine is stock inside so I dont think it will hold up for too much nos) and I got a windowswitch wich activates the nos at 2700rpm and deactivates it at 4000rpm. Its like a new engine! :)

Not surprised the D18 did not hold up, the later d300 is much stronger, though I am not sure it would hold either. Might be an option never the less.

Love the rig, LOVE the sport, I watch it on Youtube anytime I can find one.

Mind if I ask you a money question?

mainly, I am curious to know if it pays the bills doing this or not, For that matter is it like american race car drivers who get millions, or just enough to get by, or is it something like our rock racing here where it is more of a second job, or weekend job kinda deal?

Thanks, if you do not want to answer I understand, there is just so little information here about this wonderful sport!

Cheers

Brian

Calvinator: did you widen a CJ grill or use a GPW/MB grill?

Nice rig, by the way. Keep the pictures coming!

If you can, PLEASE post some links to some video!! I saw this one time and I was truelly amazed!! This is one sport I would sell my crawler(or modify) to get in this type of sport. But I don't think there are any sand quarries in the USA that can be used:(

Truelly Badass:evil:

That sport makes all the dune runners here in the USA look like real PUSSIES!!:flipoff2:

If I ever have to work in your neck of the world, I know what my next project real be.

The parts are "custommade"

Håkan (cj2a1947) get me some measurement of his chassi and i cut the grill, hood and the upperpart of the firewall out in 1,5mm aluminium and bend it in my pressbrake.

The hood and upperpart and the firewall i bend with a 164mm big axle and a 170mm die.

Here is a picture when the parts are ready:

I measured my Ford GPW 1944 (with flathead engine :D) so the bodyparts are pretty close to the original. I "cut" the grill at the bottom. Then I e-mailed my sketches to Jonas (Calvinator).
This thing doesnt pay any bills, it only gives me more bills
Seriously, most drivers have some sponsors who gives them nice prices on parts or maybe fuel to transports or so. I think some drivers gets money but they have go to the sponsors events and so on so you have to "work" for it.
My rig is a kind of budget rig, I think I have spent somewhere 18000 us dollar, but I collected parts for about five years, bought mostly used parts as tires and rims and fabricated so many parts myself as I could. Building it took about 1,5 year. The last four months of the building I think there were only five days that I wasnt working on it, besides my daily work (40h/week).
Glad to hear all comments, Thank You. :)

That's nice work to be able to fabricate your own parts. I noticed that it was shorter than a stock one. Keep the pictures coming.
