After cussing and wasteing time once again to get my wally world special tie downs to rachet properly (release/locks keep breaking) I tossed them in the garbage and plan to get new ones, but I can't seem to find ones that look decent locally, and would like to get some opinions before I purchase somthing I can't play with beforehand.

Need:
Probably 10-12ft straps
500+ working load
reliable
Big handles are big plus
Easy to use with gloved hands

These will mostly be used to tie shit in the roof basket and to a trailer. I dont need anything for vehicle tie down, but they need to be strong, I am willing to pay a decent bit for good straps and mechanisms.

Also, try looking around over in the tow rig forum, I've seen a few tie down threads over there.

I got some decent tie downs from Sam's Club, $16 for a set of 4, they are yellow, the ratchet is pretty beefy with a large handle, and they are much better than the usual crap tie downs. They have a good hook on them and a motorcycle loop also. Sam's also have some beefy 10,000 lbs+ straps, too.

Edit: These are them:

IMO,

THe best straps are from Montana Jacks. www.montanajacks.com

They have a cam buckle, for easy release and initial pull. They also have a ratchet that can slide freely up and down for perfect placement...great for a rub spot.

They aren't cheap...but they will last!! I own 12 of them, and in 4 years of HEAVY use holding my 900 lb ATV's on a trailer....none have broken. This was a welcome change, after breaking 4 of the Home Depot specials in the first 3 months.

I think they come in Black, Blue and Red.

Ditto on these - good straps. I use the bigger 2" ones on my trailer too.

I've gotten my last couple sets at Costco (don't know if you have Costco, Sam's Club is the same idea). They keep changing them, so you never know what you'll get but they get nice ones in every once in a while.

You would be able to tell right out of the box if they are good or crap. The crap ones feel just that, the good ones have a decent fit and finish and thicker metal, but they don't always have to be expensive but if they are 'too cheap to be good' they probably are.

Priced out 4 rachet straps and 2 cam straps from there. 60 something dollars, not too bad. Then I looked at shipping... $35, WTF how much do these weigh?

I've got the same set. Got them last August and they are holding up pretty good. Need to get back and get me another set. One set for the tow rig and another for the jeep.

The current sam's club ones are 10k breaking strength straps, rated at actual 3,333 holding strength.

My biggest complaint is they are freakin' 33 feet long! I need to cut them down a bit to make them halfway useful.
