63" sounds like a good width. I have seen some 70" rigs and to me they look to wide. I would stay around 65" or so. Also depends on your wheel choice too. What are you putting the 60s under?

I am putting them under my 1977 jeep cj-7. I had built my 30/20 axles. then i bought 39.5/16/15 tsl superswampers. Now I am building d60's. I am going to be pretty wide. my tsl's are mounted on 12X15 rim's. I think If i measured right I will be 85".

Since you are putting them under a CJ and you have some crazy wide wheels I would stick to what you were going to go with in the beginning. 63" should make it nice and wide for the rocks but keep it from looking to out of proportion.

Take some pictures along the way. I always like to see some old school CJs on fullsizes.:smokin:

I just had 64" wide ProRock 60's built for my CJ. It is about as narrow as you can go with 60 outers, decent steering and room to munt links or leafs. The knuckles are much wider than the 44 stuff I used to have. I used 44's in the 60-61" range with CJ's in the past.

everytime I open my garage door I get pumped. I mean the jeep is going to be down for a few months. but once it's up and running it will be cool. I am just a little rust. I finish building this jeep like 6 yo ago from the ground up. And now I have cut it down, and start another major rebuild. I wish i would have done this from the beginning. I wasted some serious time and money on my bolt on lift, 30/20 axles. I am hope when I get done that it will be just like I wanted. I will take pic's threw out. and I will update the thread. Right now it is sitting up on jack stands awaiting the new d 60's and soa lift. and a few extra's. If any one has pic's of their rigs, they are welcome. wms-wms measurements also welcome.:)

I am running fullwidth Chevy's on my CJ-7 with 37" krawlers. I outboarded my front springs and did a shackle reversal. In the back I did a 4 link with coils. I am 82" outside to outside on the front (69" WMS) and 81" in the rear (65" WMS and 1.5" spaces).

I like the width it is now and would not change it bigger or smaller.

Im at 65" WMS and wish I was at 60"...

why is that? I am currently doing the 14 bolt rear which is at 66.25 ( i know its said to be 67 but not in actual) and the from RJ 60 is going to be at 66 (well after tonight when I cut the tubes down and set the inner C's.

It is very difficult to get less then 64"ish with the rockjock center (even with the TJ/XJ clearance option of cutting about 2" off the driverside housing tube snout). I could go down to the 63-64ish but the rear being 66ish makes it more ideal I feel for the front to be at 66.

Outside tire to tire is at 79.5-80 on the rear currently. 16x8 4"BS 325x85x16 Xterrains.

I am running m/t 12x15 rims! I wheel a lot in the chagrin river which is in ohio. It has a lot of large rocks, sand banks, hill climbs, water holes, and water falls(and it's right next to home). It's fun but p/m on my jeep is hell after running the river. I also have buddies in the area with acres of hill climbs and mud holes; but they are mostlty used for testing out new jeep parts. I also do alittle PA wheeling. But I haven't done that in years. thanks for the info.

dont forget to look in to the Rockjock by currie. Its a very similar housing but with some improvments IMO. Like the rotated housing. Eliminiates the full need for a plate diff cover. Also have bigger pinion bearing and if you have a friend with a shop it can be had for less then the prorock. just throwing that out there.

No I have not. A chassis needs to be built first.

The brakes are whatever Dynatrac sells. The rears appear to be based on explorer stuff. I am 5 on 5 1/2 and the rear if full float.

Well I just started on the frame work today. I cut/grind off the 1980 shock mounts. And I am getting ready to install taller shock towers in the front! I am still awaiting my lift kit. It should be at my door the first or second week of may! I am taking pic's. And I will be posting them soon. still really no big major steps! I was wondering what yoke/u joint everyone is running in the front axle? I was planing on doing a 1350 in the rear and a 1310 in the front. I am wondering if i should upgrade my front axle yoke/u joint to 1350??:)

You guys should post up your back spacing on your rims as well as axle width.

A rig with 65" axles with 4" BS rims has the same width as 61" axle with 2" BS rims.

So a 79" 60(DRW) with a backspacing of 4.25 on a 15x10 rim would be?
..To wide to even consider?

69" 60 with about 5" BS and I'm at around 87" to the outside of 42" TSL's. I like it for the stuff I wheel. If I were running some narrower trails in other areas of the country I might want something narrower.

Something else to consider is the height of your rig. If you are going to be taller (uncut fenders) you need something wider.

i'm in the process of going full width. the rear 60 is done. i'm 69" wms to wms and have 37x12.5 goodyear military tires on H1 rims with runflats. i dont' have an exact measurement right now, but i'm about the same as my friends TJ with stock axles running 3.75" backspace on 33x12.5 tires.

it all depends on the rims. i specifically went with the H1 rims so i could stay full width for easy of spare parts. the H1 rims really pull the tires back into the wheel well and they're DOT legal beadlocks.

Well I almost have my jeep done. I still suck with the no pic's! but they are coming soon. I figure at this point I will just wait on the pic's! But everything is looking cool. My alcan springs came in about two weeks ago. I did go with the orbit eye, it's a 2.5" lifted yj spring. Alcan makes great custom springs. I also bought my shackles threw alcan. When the shackles arrived at my house they were painted black; if you check their website it shows anodized shackles?? But they still make a great product. tom and charle are two great guys. (alcan spring 1-888-321-0870) I bought spring hangers from 4wd.com that would let me hang a yj spring on my cj:shaking:...I will be returning them.:) I did not like how the shackle looked with the 4wd.com spring hanger.:shaking: plus with the 4wd.com spring hanger you had to cut out the front crossmember rivits and make some crap spacer for your steering box.:shaking: (4wd.com 1-800-333-5535) When I found that JKS makes a bolt in yj-cj spring hanger that: is made of chrome moly, bolt right in, no spacers needed, makes your shackle rake look good, and they are cheap.:D I like the fact that the jks spring hanger also uses that rivit to keep itself in line.:) (jks 1-877-474-4821)I also bought a heavy duty pittman arm from sams offroad. If you check out their website you will see that the pittman arm they are advertising is painted/powder coated red... when it showed up to my house it was bare metal??? (sams offroad 1-918-446-5535) I also order those new ARB diff. covers. No one in the usa has them in stock. The only place that has them right know for a d60 is quadratec. They had 8 in stock, but they only have 6 now after I order two. (quadratec 1-800-745-2348). They do look sweet. My axles are almost done. and ready to be mounted. I am so glad I went with a 63"wms-wms. The only thing I am afraid of; is that I am going to be sky high with my lift/tires. I was big before I started this d60/soa lift. But I think I am going to be bigger! but only time will tell. As far as the parts distributors above everyone was nice and the parts are great. I will have pics soon of the whole project. I still have to due: drive shafts, shocks, brake lines, arb lines, and I am sure some other stuff. If anyone has pic's of their rides/ info please post. This site will give people a chance to see what their rigs could be; and show the end product.

Well I read most of the board and thought how could wider not be better! No, But really, I try to have my tires stick out about 12" on my jeeps. The rule of thumb is that every 1" you go up you go an 1.5" out. Keep that in mind.

Completely depends on where you wheel. In CT/VT where I wheel some trails are really tight and designed for ATV's, so narrower is better. I will hopefully with my free time up at school be building my CJ on 65" d44/9" with a flipped d300.

I believe your right. It does depend on what kind of wheeling you are doing. That's why I laugh when I go on a hummer forums and see pic's of these guys/gals taking this hugh beasts off road. I mean it is really cool to see their pic's..... but Jeeps rule the off road land!! plus a half way built up jeep with some good parts is like a third of the cost of a h1 hummer!:mr-t:
