: full frame?
flat broke 04-16-2007, 07:00 PM Thinking about starting a new project. Does anyone have any pics. of a cherokee with a full frame they have built? Mine will have a 302 with propane, auto, hp 44 and 9in.. Not sure of what kind of case yet. Want to build a rig to haul the family in. I have a running 88 cherokee with a 4 cyl. 5 spd. and I also have a complete 79 ford pickup donor truck. I have a total of $200 invested so far. Any info will help?
DirtyComanche 04-16-2007, 07:40 PM Unless you have some extraneous reason to hate the unibody it is advised that you stick with it.
Every XJ with a frame shoved under it that I've ever seen has been hack.
There's a few vehicles out there that are more like tube-truggy things that aren't hack.
I am guilty of having had thoughts of burning the unibody off my MJ's cab and building it a new frame. It hasn't happened yet, and it probably won't.
Xjcrawler736 04-16-2007, 07:56 PM I would just strengthen the unibody and give it a simple cage. It will cost less and give you a lot less of a headache.
Just my $.02

X2.
Guy in our club put one on a blazer frame (wish I had pics). It was a piece of crap. He had alot of problems with the frame flexing more than the body and it looked like it had a huge body lift. I'm sure it cold be done much better than he did it, but I would not waste my time.

A "Pirate" style cherokee can not be built for $200.
You even have a user name of flat broke.
I could waist 30min giving you good advice but sounds like you could not $afford$ to follow through.

Sorry, that's a Wagoneer!
I say that if you want a Cherokee with a full frame, then get a full size Cherokee. Otherwise be happy with the unit-body.

I am not trying to build the jeep for $200 that is what I have invested so far. And if you don't have anything constructive to say why waste your time posting SMARTA$$

Get used to comments like that this is Pirate and not JU
vetteboy79 04-17-2007, 07:38 AM It would have to be a pretty large rig to have any sort of ground clearance if you did that.
A HP44 and 9" don't like to live under large rigs.
Try something else.

If you had half a clue, you would read Ashman's long ass "evolution" of his XJ, learn a metric shit ton of information, on how to build an XJ, and STFU.

gfbgreaser289 04-20-2007, 02:44 PM just unbolt everything from the ford and bolt it under your jeep and you'll be done with everything. as for the engine swap. im looking at the same thing but with a mj.
YJsarge 04-22-2007, 01:42 AM here's a pick for you , it's my old woods beater , it was a hell of alot easier to put it on the blazer frame then switch everything, out trust me .... I've done both !!

[Memphis] 04-22-2007, 06:51 AM Ya know that actually looks really damn good! What did you do to the old Unibody rail? Did you cut it out?
ashmanjeepXJ 04-22-2007, 10:13 AM 8in body lift :flipoff2:
I cant see that getting up any ledges with all the frame hanging down.
Depends on what you plan to wheel but it cant be very capable...:flipoff2:
[Memphis] 04-22-2007, 10:26 AM There is a teal cherokee pic floating around and that yellow one looks 1000times better. At least there isn't an air speed gap :D
YJsarge 04-25-2007, 04:16 AM there is only about 3 ft of the uni-body frame left in the in the middle of the XJ , it was cut out to match the K-5 frame . The rig worked very well and I beat the hell out of it for 3+ years until I sold it , it is still going strong
these are some older shots of it with the first suspension set up , way to stiff but still did OK. That frame hanging down sure doesn't stop the K-5 guys from climbing so wouldn't know why it would stop a much lighter set up.
