I've seen this before, that you should run a different pitman arm... but why? Is it just a longer/shorter arm? I'm in the middle of my SAS and I guess just realised that I need this arm (or do I?)

What truck did it come off of (year, model, tonnage, 2wd or 4)? I use Rock Auto, and they go by that search criteria.

That arm is for 77.5-79 1/2 tons and Bronco's. I think full size Jeeps use that arm too. You need this style arm so a tie rod will bolt to it, the stock arm is pretty much useless when doing an SAS. Could make it work, but it's so much cheaper and easier to get that arm, draglink and steering arm.

So should I buy the pitman arm, and two tie-rod ends for that same model truck? Then make my own drag link?

What I did. Used a mid 80s GM truck/K-5 tierod that is 3 peice, has a tube that is threaded on each end, same thread as draglinks. Get 2 DLs off a K-30, shorten the tube, thread the right hand thread side, and done. Or you can cut a secton out in the middle and sleave it.

b454rat: Can you go a little more in-depth with this? I can normally picture what most anyone says, but this has me more than a little confused.

Where did you guys get the pitman arm from? www.rockauto.com doesn't seem to carry it...

Do I use TRE's from a 1/2 ton? Sorry... Almost none of what you said stuck/made sense.

Thanks for keeping me in-the-know.

After reading it, it is kinda fuzzy.

GM used a 3 piece tie rod in the mid 80s, K-5s, burbs, and some 1/2 tons, not sure on 3/4s. The threads are the same as the heavy duty 1 ton tie rods and draglinks. Once you find out how long the draglink needs to be, either cut it in the middle, remove the excess, then sleeve it and reweld it, or cut off one of the ends and rethread it. I would suggest the right hand thread end, left handed taps aren't cheap. Still sounds confusing.....

National Tire and Wheel is one place that sells the arm.....

This pitman arm work? (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/NORS-1970-78-FORD-TRUCK-F100-F150-F250-PITMAN-ARM_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33587QQihZ017QQitem Z270124768079QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW)

It says up to 78... but for some reason I don't think I'm that lucky.
